I have combination skin with dry patches around my chin and this foundation does not look cakey and sink into my pores. It looks just like my skin with a bit of glow. I don't find it to be extremely glowy so you can add on something like the Hollywood Flawless Filter if you're into that. I use 1-2 drops to cover my entire face (light coverage). I was wearing it from 7 am to 11 pm and it lasted the entire day with minimal fading and at the end of the day, I still look like I have healthy dewy skin.
For shade reference, I have listed down other products which I have used: CT Light Wonder Foundation 2 CT Magic Away Concealer 3 NARS Soft Matte Concealer in Creme Brulee Nudestix Tinted Blur Stick 2 Nudestix Tinted Cover Foundation 2.5
I now understand the hype behind this foundation since finish and wear has exceeded my expectations! I would definitely say it has sheer but buildable to light-medium coverage. Since I have some hyper-pigmentation to cover so I did have to build it up by adding another layer. The 1-2 drops of suggested usage was definitely not enough for me since I have a bit of post acne-scarring to cover. I had a hard time spreading the suggested amount with my beautyblender. This brings me to the tool most ideal to apply this foundation, which in my opinion is a synthetic brush. It glides on beautifully with my Koyudo FU-PA 03 Powder/Liquid Foundation Brush. The consistency is rather fluid and the beautyblender absorbs quite a bit or product. With a brush, the foundation goes further in spreadability and coverage wise. I will be interested in trying this with my Juno & Co sponge since it gives my foundations more coverage and spreads the product out more in my experience.
I agree with Ashley L’s review that the finish is very skin-like. I was initially puzzled since it looks like my natural skin in every way but just evened out and the hyper-pigmentation lessened. If you have deeper hyper-pigmentation like myself, you will find that this will not cover them completely. I went in with the Surratt Surreal Skin Concealer in shade 5 to cover up the scarring and it worked perfectly for a natural look. The concealer is not going to completely blank out scarring but I thought that would look rather unnatural with a light coverage foundation. For under the eyes, I used the Surratt Perfectionniste Concealer Palette in shade 3 as it has the right level of coverage that goes well with this foundation. I find the concealer palette to be more emollient for the under-eye area, where I’m dry from prescription retinol use.
If you have combination leaning oily skin like myself, you would need to powder this foundation even if only a light dusting. I would imagine this foundation is ideal for dry skin types as it did not cling to any of my dry patches. The retinol which really dries out the skin but none of the texture is enhanced and not even visible! I find that I would need to blot per usual at the 3-4 hour mark but that is fine since this foundation does not claim to control oils. For reference, I’m about NC25 and I wear the shade 10 but it is just a hair too deep for me. The shade has a yellow undertone, which is spot on for me. If everything described sounds good to you in this exceedingly long review, I hope you’re able to give the foundation a try since I have a feeling you will not be disappointed!
I love this foundation on its own or mixed in with perricone MD no bronzer bronzer. You can build it up without it looking cakey. I find I need 5 or 6 drops for a full face coverage as 2 drops doesn't covers only one cheek. Natural radiat finish and fabulous for oily skin
PROS: I have dry skin plus fine wrinkles. This foundation works like a dream on my skin. It does what it says: your skin but better. I definitely need more than the recommended 1-2 drops. I use 5-6 drops and apply with my fingers (using a brush or a beautyblender "eats" most of it), which gives me light-medium coverage I desire. All in all, this is a truly incredible foundation - not cakey, gives me just the right amount of glow, stays on for at least 8 hours. I have no complaints about the foundation itself. In fact, I can say that among Armani, La Mer, Sisley, Dior, Guerlain foundations I own, this is easily my #1.
CONS: 1. The amount: the bottle is only .65oz. That's barely half an ounce for $75, while the industry standard is 1oz! So, if you take that for consideration, 1oz of this product would cost you close to $140. That BITES. 2. The bottle: Um, on top of the fact that you get a lot less product, you can't see how much you have left. There's no indicator since the bottle is painted over and there's no way to open it to find out. 3. That leads me to my other major issue: the dropper/pump doesn't work for me half of the time. I have to shake it, press it, shake it again, and hold my breath to get a few drops out of the bottle on one go. And every single time I wonder whether I already used it all. Talking about anxiety...
In summation, the foundation itself is perfection and I'd repurchase it again. The bottle design is a flop and it's so expensive for so little, I'm asking my family for Beautilish gift cards this Christmas so I don't go broke when I'm out of it, which will be soon.
I have a dry skin and had a lot of other expensive foundations and by mid day, those foundations are becoming cakey and sinking into my small pores. This one never did that. I love this one so much. Also, thank you for the make up removing balm sample given by Beautilish
I am so in love with this foundation! I was very excited about this release, having tried other beautiful products from Surratt and the review and tutorial from Rachel A. of the Beauty Professor. It most definitely met AND exceeded my high expectations. One of my favorite things about it is the ease of application and the beautifully hydrating feel on the skin-it's absolutely sublime. Not only that, it blends like a dream! You only need several drops and you get a finish that looks like flawless, fresh healthy even SKIN. The formula is just impeccable. I have combination skin, and it really melds in to my skin beautifully. It really is a beautiful veil of coverage that brings out the best in your skin. Even though I am happy with my skincare regime, I am prone towards larger pores in certain areas-and it never 'sinks in' and emphasizes pores/texture. I am left with the most beautiful canvas for the rest of my makeup look! I think this formula would be wonderful for just about any skin type. I usually apply it and press over the face and use one of my Wayne Goss face brushes to do a quick blend(you could certainly also use a Beauty Blender) I don't need powder to set it at all actually. Any product you use over, however-like cheek color(cream or powder blush) highlighter, bronzer will look just gorgeous. Will follow up with a photo!
At first use I wasn't the biggest fan. I have dry very very sensitive skin and that's the reason I want to try this foundation. Every foundation with SPF or fragrance natural or synthetic breaks me out. Since the dew drop sounds like it will work perfect for dry skin the first application was a total let down. I reached to 'Kinkysweat' Alicia THANK YOU AGAIN! And learned to prep the skin for this foundation and it's beautiful!!!
I love how this foundation looks though it was a tad light (matched my neck but my face is a tiny bit darker--typical at the end of summer). Probably the best foundation I've tried but unfortunately it made my cheeks break out! This was surprising because although I have sensitive skin I can't remember a time I had problems with a foundation. I waited for my skin to heal and tried a little bit on my cheeks and again, painful, scaly breakouts. :(
I also did not care for the applicator. I have mild arthritis in my hands and trying to get this going was literally uncomfortable.
If this works for you, you're very lucky!
This is by far the best foundation I have ever tried!! It looks just the right amount of dewy on your skin and it covers well. I will buy it again and again and again. The only “problem “ is that it’s a bit of a struggle to push out. It has a rubbery cushion at the bottom which you have to press fairly hard to get some liquid out. I hope Surratt will change this.
I was attracted to the foundation mainly because of the "dew." However, I found it quite matte and now understand why other reviewers say they don't need to powder it. I have dry skin -- foundations such as Armani Lasting Silk (which is supposed to be matte, seems more dewy on my skin).
The shade 3 is true to its description. It is a peach. However, if you look online for swatches, the swatches don't really show how peachy it is.
