This foundation is absolutely gorgeous, and it's a shame that it's overshadowed by the Aqua foundation. I realize that it's annoying the tube comes with less than a standard ounce, but you truly don't need much.
Compared to the Aqua foundation, this has slightly more coverage, is slightly more dewy, and is more hydrating. I have normal to dry skin, and this is so comfortable on me all day! It lasts through the workday and I can even stretch it into dinner or happy hour after work. I never have that uncomfortable feeling where I can't wait to wash my face. This foundation seems to diffuse light and make my skin look like the most perfect version of itself possible. The problem, for me, with the Aqua foundation is that it looked a little too much like skin (i.e.: dry patches looked like dry patches). This is a little more forgiving on my dry areas.
I would urge you to give this a try if you're curious! I love everything about it! For reference, I'm 113 at my palest and 123 in summer. In Armani Luminous Silk I'm 4.5, I'm 20 in Diorskin Nude, and Nude in Laura Mercier Tinted Moosturizer.
It you're on the hunt for the ultimate foundation, Koh Gen Do's Maifanshi Moisture Foundation is it - perfect marriage of skincare and flawless natural coverage in one product. If anything, this should be considered as the last step of your skincare routine, it's that amazing. The coverage is buildable and the finish natural matte, leaving you with the perfect healthy glow. I tell everyone that it looks like skin but better. Also love the fact that there's little to no silicone (in addition to the fact that there's no parabens, mineral oil, petroleum, etc.) so it doesn't oxidize like other foundations, therefore it stays on for hours without pilling, cracking, or turning orange. Definitely worth the cost. I've attached a close up of a client wearing the foundation.
Maifanshi Moisture Foundation is nothing new, it has been around since 1991. This is a cream foundation that is formulated with 60% water, 30% 'refined' oil and 10% powder. The combination of encapsulated water and powder by the oil releases the powder and water throughout the day, so it is like a time released foundation. Koh Gen Do states that this particular formulation keeps the skin from drying out, and your skin will look refreshed and hydrated throughout the day.
This foundation does indeed keep the skin hydrated, and it does stand up to intense lighting and long hours, so why the average rating? Here goes: I think it is extremely overpriced; $62 for about an ounce. Look, I am a big believer in you get what you pay for, maybe that's why I am remotely disappointed. If you have skin that is on the dry side, this is a great foundation for you. The Maifanshi line also has a good range of colors and undertones, making it very easy to get a good match, but that's about where it ends for me.
I find this to be a very sheer foundation, and if you need a foundation that offers decent coverage, this is not the foundation for you. Sure, you can build it up, but with a $62 price tag, it is not cost effective to do so. I've worked with a lot of MUA's that absolutely love this product, but I just don't understand the 'hype'. If you want a beautiful finish, this is a great product, but based on it's 'overall HD performance,' there are way better, and more cost effective lines that produce a better product. I have no intention of replacing this product in my kit. It's not worth the price. (Just my opinion).
This foundation is amazing for dry and mature skin. It makes me look super fresh and doesn't settle in my forehead or eye lines.
I also have used it on two young clients who were on acne medication and the other foundation I tried was pilling off into balls. The moisture foundation gave them flawless looking coverage, no pilling. It really becomes one with your skin.
The coverage is a bit more than a CC cream and builds with a second layer up to medium/full coverage. I set it with a setting spray and have no problem making it last 12+ hours.
I brought this foundation to Miami with me in August for a friend's wedding. It looked beautiful the entire time and my face looked surprisingly fresh, but not sweaty in all the photos.
I did a full review of this foundation on my blog and also did a swatch video on my youtube channel, search: girlgetglamorous koh gen do swatches. If you are trying to decide on shades, this might be helpful.
I know the price point feels steep, but the formula really delivers. It's a more natural formula as well and has skincare level ingredients. I always feel like base makeup is one of the most important parts of your makeup, so I'm willing to invest as this does keep skin from breakouts etc. It's a quality foundation!
I have tired lots of the HD lines and this one far beats out the rest! It is tested to last under hot lights and heat for up to 10 hours! Talk about summer time friendly! There is a large range of colors to suit ever skin type. Plus this is a makeup that does not sit on the skin, but more becomes "one" with the skin! Seriously. Best foundation I have ever tried. It's not cheap though!
This product is EXACTLY what I was looking for! I have dry combo skin that is textured with acne scars and huge pores and I have a hard time finding exactly what I wanted. This doesn't cling to dry patches or make my skin look older than it is. It just looks like your skin but better! My skin has a habit of being dehydrated and this was absolutely perfect! I loved the coverage, for me it was medium, which was also what I wanted. I was in a rush so I didn't set with a powder so it didn't stay as long as I wished but I was outside for part of the day. I plan on setting with a powder next time and I will update my review. So far this has been the best foundation I have tried for my troubled skin! I absolutely think it's worth the price! It is a very small bottle but a little goes a really long way. I am typically an NC15/20 but at the moment I have color on my skin from being outside the past two weeks so this color was perfect, I just warmed it up with bronzer. I think the shade would be perfect for my skin without my summer tan also, it seems very versatile. I am also very very sensitive, acne prone and also dry, I have not broken out from this yet and I usually would immediately if it will at all. If you are looking for a great lightweight foundation that actually covers problem areas without looking like you have makeup on this is it! You won't be disappointed!!!!!!
This doesn't dry me up especially with the long hours in air-conditioned areas. It is nicely hydrating and doesn't settle into my pores. When I am out and about in the humid environment, it gives my dehydrated yet oily skin a nice and natural glow. With this foundation, I didn't have to blot as much. It is overall a good base product as it is long-lasting and kept my skin moisturized. Touch-ups are only required after 6 hours or so. Highly recommend for dehydrated skin.
I couldn't decide between 3 or 4 stars for this product. It is my first time using it and although the product itself is pretty amazing, it's $62 for only .71oz. It offers great coverage and a little goes a long way, which is why I decided on 4 stars. I am usually an NC15/NC20 in Mac products and the 012 was perfect! It is long lasting, yet buildable. I use the Koh Gen Do green base before applying the foundation and it leaves my complexion looking smooth and even. I will definitely buy this product again; however, for the high price tag and small amount, it might be reserved for special occasions instead of everyday wear.
Sheer to medium coverage, easy to blend, glowy without any glitter or sparkle, and moisturizing. Very comfortable and a dream to apply. Barely noticeable, and wears great. Does not increase oil production throughout the day. I would say perfect for combination to dry complexions. Oily complexions would have to probably combine with a little bit of powder. All in all, I recommend it.
I had ordered samples from the Koh Gen Do website to determine the right shade for me. 023 gives me a healthy look of a tan w/o the dangers of sun damage. 012 is perfect for winter season. Love the coverage and the natural look!
