I really wanted to love this foundation. first off let me tick off the great things this product has to offer: comfortable wear, good coverage, clean ingredients and great packaging. all in all this would of been a 5/5 star foundation if it weren't for the coconut oil. after wearing this foundation for a bit over a week I broke out like mad. I have acne prone skin so I didn't think my skin was having a reaction to the foundation. after continuously wearing the foundation my breakout worsened. when i went on vacation i took no makeup with me (not even this foundation) and my skin cleared and breakout subsided. so i did extensive research and found that coconut oil is comodogenic and high in oleic acid...WHICH IS NOT GOOD FOR ACNE PRONE SKIN. just a fair warning: if your skin can't handle coconut oil, it won't be able to handle this
Coconut oil: Go Away! Seriously. RMS, W3LL People (the TM I waited for forever!!!!!!), Ilia (shame), Lilah B. (The packaging alone had me sold...), Studio 78, Nu Evolution, The Organic Pharmacy, Fitglow, Lily Lolo, Kjaer Weis. What the huh? So, those of us with easily clogged (not even "acne prone" or oily) are supposed to use "conventional" cosmetics or mineral powder? I don't know ANYONE who can use coconut oil - not my 70 year old mother, not my 12 year old puberty-suffering cousin, not any of my friends 20s-40s, different skin types, different races, living in different climates - everyone thinks it's gross. It's cheap, greasy, occlusive and inelegant. This is a particularly disappointing foundation, because it's otherwise perfect. The color! I'm platinum with pale (Seattle) skin and the lightest shade is a perfect match for me. I tried a few samples applied only around my eyes, around my nose and mouth and one tiny blemish and it was so nice. I love seeing healthy skin with a minor flaw or two vs. acne or dry patches well covered but still very noticeable It's the only thing as bad as silicones (including silicone-mimicking broccoli seed oil). Somebody - do something. Ugh. It gives me milia and has caused breakouts on my scalp (disgusting) and legs. It's awful. Please, someone do better.
Basically, I put this on in the morning and went about my chores. At some point before I was heading out my door, I thought to myself that I should put on some make-up. So I looked in the mirror and was confused to why my skin already looked great and then I remembered I had used Kjaer Weis foundation in the morning! It feels like nothing on the skin - I swear. Organic skin products aren't important to me but I do love Kjaer Weis's line and I really hope she comes out with a nice powder!
I like this foundation okay, but it's definitely nowhere near as perfect for me as my trusty RMS Uncover Up. It has a pretty decent shade range, especially for a green beauty brand, and with the addition of the newer shades; and it has pretty full coverage - definitely more than I usually go for. Also, the way that it's a cream in a pot compact is great for using it for spot concealing. However, it does give a fairly matte finish, and has an almost dryer texture, so people with dry skin might not like this very much. I have to mix the shades Silken and Illusion to get my perfect shade. There is a shade in between the two that is said to be yellow toned, but it actually shows up very pink and unnatural on my very yellow skin. Aside from that, the packaging is very cute, although I'm not sure the product warrants the higher price point (at least not in my case). If you try to use natural beauty products, have oilier skin and need something mattifying and covering, I think you may enjoy this product. As for me, I'm going to use what I have, since it is still a relatively good product (and expensive), but I think I'll be sticking to my RMS Uncover Up in future. 1 = Illusion, 2 = Just Sheer (looks pink toned on me in person), 3= Silken
What's not to love about this foundation? I bought this because it had the safest ingredients I could find for a cream foundation and it exceeded my expectations. The packaging is very luxurious and the consistency of the foundation is very smooth. I would say the coverage is light-medium but could be layered for more coverage without looking cakey. I also love that I doesn't have fragrance and that you can just buy the refills when you are all out. Also the color silken is perfect for my fair warm-golden toned skin. Highly recommend if you are looking for a natural product that performs like luxury brand makeup.
Purchased Paper Thin..I'm about an NW20.. it's a touch dark but I can mix with porcelain until my face warms up to match my neck and chest.(which are darker) Definitely use an oil to prep skin beforehand.(I use rose hip oil) and I use a flat foundation brush... I like to use this as a sheer foundation-so I don't pack it on.. just cover slight imperfections. Last all day..wish Kjaer Weis had a powder to use on my T-Zone to keep me less glowing. I like that there are no chemicals and I feel good wearing a healthy makeup product.
I was so scared to purchase this product, because, mostly of so different reviews, coconut oil, price tag, and the fact, that I had to choose the shade just online. Nevertheless, when my order has just arrived I was completely surprised and impressed how does the shade truly match my yellow-based skin undertone. I expected that it would be too light either. Its truly natural, lightweight and flawless foundation. I don't like usually to use foundations and prefer tinted moisturizes or just RMS concealer, but this one has changed my mind forever. I even now don't put any other make-up( like blush, shadows) except good oil (I use Sunday Riley or Province Apothecary) and Kjaer Weiss, because the face became simply beautiful and shining. Even if I m acne prone, I didn't get any problem, instead, the opposite - my skin has got a major improvement with texture and colour. I also adore the brand concept - re-use, recycle, choose organic. I hate consumerism and Kjaer Weiss is totally a great step for minimalistic approach for a new lifestyle. Thank you Beautylish!
I have the Kjaer Weis blush and I love it, so I had really high hopes for this foundation. This foundation doesn't lay properly on my skin. The only way I found to make it look presentable was to apply a face oil beforehand. Also, no products used over it lay right either (bronzer, highlight, blush) despite trying both creams and powders. I have attempted using every brush, sponge, and primer to make this work for me but it looks absolutely horrible. This also made me breakout as well (which is very rare for me).
I was really hesitant to try this first because of the price, second because I’m very pale and have a hard time finding the right shade, and third because I have never tried a cream foundation before. Well I’m so glad to say that this product scores in all categories. I apply it with a foundation brush and I use my virgin marula oil from the ordinary mixed with Saturday Skin featherweight moisturizer. It goes on like a dream and you don’t need a lot of product to get great results. I was concerned about my dry patches picking up too much product but I fixed the problem by scrubbing my skin with Saturday Skin’s Rub-a-Dub peel before I moisturize. I use the bdellium foundation brush and then follow with the Kjaer Weis setting powder. The shade match for both foundation and powder is amazingly accurate and I am now going to buy the bronzer and a blush. So happy with this and I love how it hydrates my dry skin all day long. I haven’t had any issues with it settling into pores or fine lines. Thank you beautylish for the flexibility in payments. You’re a lifesaver!
Im being generous with the 4 stars because makeup is utilitarian in my honest opinion. im in my 20s and bought this as a splurge when i first joined beautylish. the thing is i still have some left in the compact but seeing as its over 2 years old i dont want to put it on my face. being that its natural it might be good to use still. its luxurious, and if applied correctly can make it seem like you have perf skin, and can make you break out like crazy. id like to try paper thin.
