The P-8 powder brush is made with rare long gray squirrel and only master brush craftsmen can work with hair this long competently. This particular brush is produced in very limited numbers, so in essence... it is not mass produced and commonly circulated. The softness of this powder brush and the way it applies and diffuses powder is indescribable because the characteristic softness of this particular hair adapts to the skin for a fluid finish that is just gorgeous. When I'm working, I keep this brush under lock and key if I have to step away from my area. Believe it or not, Beautylish is offering this brush at a really really good price: $424. I paid $550 for mine..... This is THE ultimate powder brush.
I received this brush 2 days ago from Japan. This brush is sooo amazing. This giant brush has very long bristles and it's extremely soft. I have to say, it worth the money. Long squirrel hair is rare, and if you're a brush geek, you have to own this brush.
The P-8 powder brush is so beyond gorgeous. This is the softest and biggest brush I have ever had. Worth every penny.
FIRST, THIS IS AN INVESTMENT, THIS IS A VERY EXPENSIVE BRUSH, AND WORTH IT!! IT TOOK A LITTLE COURAGE TO SPEND THAT MUCH ON ONE BRUSH, AND I HAVE NO REGRETS. IT IS CRAFTED BY HAND...A SPECIAL PIECE, THAT AN ARTISAN CAREFULLY CRAFTED, IT IS BEAUTIFUL, AND THE QUALITY IS UNLIKE ANYTHING I HAVE EVER SEEN. THE SOFTNESS OF THIS BRUSH IS BEYOND BELIEF, IT IS LIKE A WHISPER ON YOUR SKIN. THE BRUSH IS MADE WITH RARE, LONG GRAY SQUIRREL, MADE BY MASTER CRAFTSMEN, AND IN VERY LIMITED NUMBERS. I FEEL LUCKY TO HAVE THIS IN MY COLLECTION ......IF YOU LOVE BRUSHES, THIS IS THE HOLY GRAIL...
While I agree with all the other reviews about how beautiful this brush is... no one really talks about:
- the hairs are long (and that is why it's special) -- but they are not dense. If you want a brush to lightly swish away powder, to lightly apply powder or highlighter, or to lightly (super lightly) buff, then this brush does it. (Although you're not supposed to use such luxuriously long hairs to buff because it may ruin the ends of the bristles. It's only meant to sweep instead of buff.) It does all these things very nicely, with the emphasis on does it very LIGHTLY. It is not any better than other high end brushes.
If you're looking for a heavy hitter: a buffer, a worker -- no, this is not the brush.
It's beauty and special long hairs are also it's weakness. The hairs are so delicate. you have to take care of it so so well. I accidentally put a spooley brush next to the P8 in the container and left it there a few days, the hairs on the P8 got all kinky because of the friction from the spooley brush :(
I own pretty much all the high end japanese brushes: Z series, Hakuhodo Red, and Suqqu. With this experience, I feel that this brush is NOT worth the money. Not in terms of breaking the bank for it. I got it because I was just curious about what a 400 dollar brush would feel like. If I were to be frank, I'm a little disappointed. There are other brushes that do the same thing without sacrificing any ounce of softness and luxury.
The Suqqu face brush is softer, silkier, less expensive (although it is a different hair type and shape). The Hakuhodo S102 does many of the same things as the P8, but is not as densely packed as the P8. The Chikuhodo Z9 is a lot denser, but perhaps is not as much of a dupe as the above 2. The Takumi T1 diffuses and buffs a little more than the P8.
There are some who believe purchasing a brush of this nature (and cost) is frivolous. It is definitely pricey. But you could also argue that any cosmetic purchase is frivolous and unnecessary, yet we do so regularly for the way it makes us feel/look. This brush is one-of-a-kind and well worth the money if fine brushes are your thing. It's superior in its softness and creates an amazing finish. No regrets!
I only created my profile just to review this product! I am a born and raised Japanese. I only own Japanese makeup brushes, and I am familiar with the Japanese brush quality. As soon as I touched the brush, I knew I don't need another brush for the rest of my life!!!!!! The softness is out of this world. Everyone said I was crazy to spend this much money on ONE brush, but I am not regretting at all. I am going to use this every day. It was a great purchase, and I am also happy with the fast shipping of Beautylish.
