Bright matte red

This color is a bright matte red color, and I love it. I didn't have anything like it in my makeup arsenal - I had shiny reds and glossy reds, but no regular classic red. It looks pinker on the screen than it is; it even looks pinker in the pan but it comes on red, and I love it. Great coverage, not drying, long-lasting.

Just didn't like it on my skin

So there's nothing wrong with the lipstick formulation itself - I did a general review of Inglot lipsticks on the general page, and I love them. For the cost of a drugstore brand (cheaper, actually, because I live in NYC) you get a large pan of high-quality, highly-pigmented lipstick. Love!

But I just wasn't in love with this color on my lips. As you can see I'm a brown-skinned black girl and it's too bright for my skin tone. I am using it to layer with other colors to make them pop a little bit, and it's good for that - especially mixed with a red to make a corally-red color. But alone - not a fan.

Long-lasting, non-drying, smells delicious, totally worth it!

When I first signed up for Beautylish I got a $10 credit, so I was like hooray - new makeup! I loved that Beautylish showed swatches on light and dark skin so I got an idea of what the colors would look like. I decided to try out Inglot's lipsticks because I had heard such good things about them, and $6 for a high-quality makeup was too much to resist. I got 5 in the 5-pan Freedom palette. Can I say I love this system? Instead of buying a palette where only 2 or 3 of the colors worked, I got to select my own. I bought 1, 2, 9, 27, and 33.

First thing - Beautylish is amazing. They ship SO FAST. I got this package in about 2 days, before something I had ordered BEFORE this. And it had a cute handwritten message inside. :D

I love pan lipsticks because of the precision you get when applying them with a lip brush, but the ones I've had in the past don't seem to stay for long. Inglot's lipsticks stay FOREVER. They even survive eating - not full strength, of course, but you keep a bit of tint on your lips afterwards. I experimented with them the first day and even wiping them off with a tissue took some effort; I still had some stain on my lips. They are highly pigmented and non-drying, and they smell delicious.

I have to say that I am not a big fan of 1 on my medium-brown African American skin. It was too light orangey, and it just didn't go well alone. However, I really love the other colors. 2 is a pretty coral (they look very similar on the screen, but they look quite different on my skin); 9 is actually a bright shiny red; 27 is a raspberry and 33 is a pinky plum. I also layered 1 with some other colors and I like that - I didn't want the hassle of returning one $6 pot of lipstick so I'm going to be mixing it with other stuff to get a great look.
