Makeup by Blanche Macdonald Makeup student Catlyn Jeong. “With this look, I wanted to create something funky something that is totally different and vibrant yet still matching with my previous work. To create a more fantasy look on the face, I airbrushed vibrant colors using Golden Airbrush Paint in purple, yellow, green red and blue. I applied false lashes top and bottom to intensify the look. As for the bottom lashes, I placed about them approximately 5mm away from the natural lashes. I was inspired by the necklace which I placed on the hat and therefore, extended the pattern by created a similar, flowy pattern into the neck.”

"This "Party Monster" Makeup look is all about creating something that is fun, and a little satirical. Let your creativity take over! Anything goes! My concept is taken from the 2003 movie, Party Monster - a true story about 1990s club kids in New York City. One of the Makeups in that movie includes a "third eye", so I created a makeup with a third eye and made it my own version using bright, fun colours and black graphic lines. 

 This is how I did it:
 First, I sketched major details of my design using a white eyeliner pencil and buffed on a white cream makeup base and set it with loose powder. For me, its all about using cream makeup to create a base, and then setting it with bright, highly pigmented powders to create a lot of opacity. Little by little, I contoured and highlighted my model's face with a pink and yellow palette with pops of acid green and blue.

 To keep the blending of bright colours from looking too fuzzy, I cleaned it up with black eyeliner and cake makeup, drawing black graphic lines around the eyes in sort of an "alien Egyptian" design, beaming from the third eye and for shapes under the eyes. This helps to break up the design of the makeup and make it more visually interesting. Then I added huge false lashes on the upper and lower lash lines and also around the painted third eye. After painting on a bright blue lip, I finished my look off with a little sprinkle of blue and white glitter all over!"

First place winning design for the 2012 Toronto International Makeup Artist’s (IMATS) Beauty/Fantasy student Makeup competition by Blanche Macdonald Makeup graduate Kiki Xiang. “This was my first time competing at IMATS! For the 'Battle of the Brushes' I had two hours to complete a look with the theme: Wild Kingdom. The concept for my look is the spider – more specifically, the Black Widow. I designed my look for a model with black hair so that the head looks like the body of the Black Widow with red dots on top. Of course, this spider usually has 6 or 8 eyes so I extended the look up to the head and tried to make the dark web-like lines transition seamlessly into the black hair. To create this look, I first mixed white foundation with a skintone foundation. I used red eyeshadow for contouring, concentrating the intensity of pigment along the cheekbones. I used a brush to draw the black web lines on the face, neck and collarbones. For dimension, I used white cream eyeshadow and highlighted along the top of the web near the forehead. Then, I concentrated on the eyes. I thickly waterlined my model’s eyes with a black cream eyeshadow and applied top and lower lashes. For the spider’s eyes, I used red eyeshadow paint on my model’s head and used white highlight to give it a 3D look and some black eyeshadow for more dimension. I used the black cream shadow as a lipstick, filling the entire top lip and outlined part of the lower lip. I then filled the bottom lip with red cream shadow, blended a bit at the corners and highlighted the top of the lip with white!” Photo provided by Make-Up Artist Magazine.

Makeup, hair, styling, photography and post-production – all by our incredible Blanche Macdonald Makeup graduate/instructor and Timothy Hung. This look is inspired by Les Misérables! Here is his Makeup breakdown: 1. Cleanse the face with Biorderma Sensibio H2O. 2. Moisturize and massage skin with Darphin Organic Rose Aromatic Care mixed in with Aveda Jasmine Absolute and Rose Absolute Oils. 3. Condition the lips with Rosebud Lip Salve. 4. Fill in the lash line with Make Up For Ever Aqua Black Waterproof Cream Eye Shadow. 5. Mix Make Up For Ever’s HD Foundation in shade #110 with Giorgio Armani Fluid Sheer in shade #7 and apply with a brush 6. Line the contour of the eyes with M.A.C Kohl Pencil in Costa Riche, blend thoroughly and add M.A.C Sculpt Powders in Sculpt and Shadowy. 7. Add M.A.C Carbon Eye Shadow for more definition in the crease of the eyes. 8. Apply M.A.C Light Touch Pressed Pigment with fingers directly on the eyelid for a liquid-like highlight. 9. Highlight/line bottom lash line with M.A.C Chromagraphic Pencil in NC15/NW20. 10. Apply a sheer coat of Diorshow’s Iconic Mascara in shade #090 to the top lashes. 11. Contour the cheeks with M.A.C Cream Color Base in Mid-Tone Sepia and Cream Color Base in Devilish Orange for a flush of colour. 12. Highlight the height of the cheekbones, the brow bones, the bridge of the nose and the chin with M.A.C Cream Colour Base in Pearl 13. Define and line lips with M.A.C Beet Lip Line. Lightly tap the lips to defuse the intensity. Follow this by applying Dior Addict Ultra Gloss in shade #982 for shine and intensity.

"For the Asian Expo Fantasy Makeup competition, we were asked to use a combination of techniques and color palettes to create a face and body paint with the theme "Asian Culture-inspired". This look was my entry for the competition final. I based my design around the main colours of Korea and made a big ribbon with traditional Korean cloth and flowers. I was inspired by a traditional Korean wedding. For the body paint, I airbrushed the base colors and then drew the Korean traditional characters and dramatic random lines by hand."

"I have always been inspired by the beauty and elegance of Mughal princesses and queens of India and how their fashions originated trends that are widely followed and admired around the globe. My idea behind creating this look is from a Mughal princess in an issue of 2013 Vogue magazine. Vogue inspires artists and designers and provokes creative minds to bring something unusual yet aesthetically appealing to many other editorials as well as for fashion lovers." Makeup breakdown: 1. Layer liquid and cream foundations to create the smooth skin with a highlighted undertone. 2. Apply MUFE's star powders on lower lid add two tone shimmer with fashion lashes from Make Up For Ever. 3. Shadows intensity was build using Ben Nye matte shadows followed by satin finish MAC shades. 4. Make Up For Ever star powder was used to create this unconventional lip color. 5. Highlight eyelids with Mehron pigments. Products used: Kryolan foundation, Make Up For Ever star powders and lashes, MAC and Ben Nye eye shadows, and Mehron pigments.

 Win says: "The idea of a 'free style' beauty shoot has always been on my mind. There's no face chart and no detail planning involved and it's never anything that I would put down on paper - you just show up and do it. This collaboration was all brand new experience to me as this is the first time I've worked with this team so it was perfect in terms of keeping it very impromptu. The only concept I had in my mind was 'abstract' with colors, nothing too messy and artsy but at the same time not too calculated neither. Hence the name 'Controlled Chaos'."

 Makeup Breakdown:
 1. Moisturize the skin with Embryolisse Lait-Creme Concentre 
2. Apply Face Atelier Ultra Foundation Pro
 3. Conceal with Derma Color Camouflage system 
4. Highlight with MAC pigment White B80
 5. For the eyes, first apply MAC Paint Pot in Rich Purple on the lids, Pigment Marine Ultra A99 over the lids, Pigment Full Force Violet on outer corners, lower lid, and inner corner and Pigment Kelly Green on front of brows
 6. Rim the entire eye with MAC eyeliner in Smolder
 7. Apply Lancome Hypnose Drama mascara
 8. Apply Illamasqua in Liv for the lip 
 9. Cheek is creamy moist glow rouge by Kevyn Aucoin in Apricot
