Reviews
This review is my love letter to Sonia and her beautiful Maki-e Collector’s Edition.
I am quite new to fude world (previously I owned only Suqqu blush brush, Suqqu L eye shadow brush, Sonia G mini booster and Chikuhodo pencil brush), so when I saw this set I knew it had to be mine (it was also my birthday gift to myself).
Everything about these brushes is fantastic. The handles, maki-e details, different bristles.
The setting brush from the Sunset Cranes set is much larger than I thought. Here is its size in comparison with Suqqu blush brush and Suqqu L brush. I love using it for highlighter!
Another brush that I didn’t know that I needed is the Smooth Blender from Summer Koi set. It is a great brush for packing the eyeshadow, for blending it. I can use just this one brush for a simple eye makeup look.
I can’t stop playing with my brushes, and I want to thank Sonia and all craftsmen for creating this truly wonderful set!
Ps the first photo also contains Mini Keyaki Niji which isn’t part of the Maki-e Collector’s Edition Eye set.
A magnificent set of brushes! They are perfect! Not a single brush from Sonia disappointed me. I get great joy and pleasure from using these brushes. The brushes not only aesthetically look externally, but also functional. Very soft, tactilely enjoy when you do makeup.
Every Brush a Masterpiece
All the brushes in this set are truly beautiful. I couldn't afford the original three sets and this spring I treated myself to this set on my birthday. I do not regret it! Each and every single brush is wonderful and most of them would be impossible to find in my fairly big brush collection. One thing to keep in mind that this is not a «balanced» set in the way that they brushes weren't intended to be sold in this triple set. So if you expect a well rounded set you might be disappointed. But again: They were never meant to be.
To me it's not the kind of set with wich I will use all of the brushes equally, but some of them are already true favourites and irreplaceable to me and I treasure their uniqueness.
I also want to write this review to stress how amazing Beautylish customer service is. When the set arrived I got the Mini Builder twice but the Crease Brush was missing. I must confess that I only realised after a couple of days. When I contacted Beautylish the immediately offered a refund. If you're a brush collector you might sympathise that my heart sunk: Buying these kind of sets is never about just «owning brushes». It's also about collecting and having a complete set. Having shared this with Beautylish they went out of their way to find the missing brush for me. It hasn't arrived yet, but I am so grateful that this was taken into consideration. I've been a customer for years and I very rarely had any trouble at all, but it was always solved quickly. And this incident shows me that I can be comfortable even with a big purchase, as they will know how certain things can be very important if you're a collector and makeup lover.
Beautiful as always
The recently released 2025 @soniagbrushes Maki-e Collector’s Edition Eye Set is a great way for Sonia G fans that missed out on some or all of the original 3 individual Maki-e set releases (Sunset Cranes, Summer Koi, and Japanese Gardens) although the Sunset Cranes set is a little different with only 3 brushes versus the original 4 and only one of the brushes was in the original version. Unfortunately that also means if you caught the original version you don’t have the 2 new designs in that set and can’t get them on their own (at least not right now). I didn’t bother to photograph all of the brushes in the collectors edition because they are exactly the same and I have already reviewed them on their original pages but I did take a couple of quick shots of the “new” version and pulled a few of the original set from the photo archive. The new set and presentation is amazing as always (Sonia definitely puts her all into her launches) but if you already have the original 3 sets you don’t really need to get this unless you really wanted backups of the 2 sets you can’t purchase and wanted the little extra touches that come with this set.
The 2 new brushes that are now part of the Sunset Cranes set are nice of course and meet the quality we have come to expect from Sonia but if you have a large collection of fude brushes you may have similar brushes in your collection already. Don’t get me wrong…if you opt to splurge on this collection even if you already have some or all of the original sets you won’t be disappointed at all. But if you’re hesitant because of the price and feeling like you’re only getting it to get those 2 brushes it’s ok to pass. Hopefully Sonia is able to bring those two brushes back individually or release the 2025 Sunset Cranes set in the future.
Worth every Penny!!
Well, for a few years I was pretty much on a self-induced no-buy for make-up brushes and I had therefore missed the 1st & 2nd e-Maki releases by Sonia, which was of course my own fault. Just before I was recently about to buy the remaining 3rd set of the line I received the "miracle" e-mail announcing the lauch of this set here, which includes all three releases in one! 😲
YES, the price point is very steep and for some reason the 3-installment payment plan offered by Beautylish seems to be defective with one HUGE 1st payment, followed by 2x €75 (honestly Beautylish, if that is how this works from now on, I don't need a 3-installment payment plan offered to me because that is just ridiculous).
So I decided to sacrifice some of my savings and hit "complete your purchase" 🙈. I could not sleep that night, cause even I had never spent that much money on one set of brushes, BUT they are so worth it!!!
Being a huge fan of Sonia's brushes from day 1 I can really say that these are hands down the most beautiful and exquisite Fude brushes I own. The quality is just beyond real...and I mean this for both the brush parts, as well as the handles.
Nobody but me will ever get to touch these until the day I die for fear of them getting damaged. That's how special they are. I consider them to be both an exquisite tool, but also a piece of cherishable art, a piece of Japanese history, a piece of someone's pride in their work and love for their trade.
Sending love from Germany 🫶🏻.
