Love it on my clients, but not me
I have a very love hate relationship with this foundation. I love it on my clients, some of them wear it so nicely, but this one just does not love my skin. There's something in it that Im allergic to. I get surface bumps, and it makes me so sad, because this is really a great color match for me. Im fair skinned, and I normally have to match a few different foundations in order to get the right shade, and this one just matches me sooo perfectly; but alas the formula hates my skin.
On my clients, this is a buildable foundation. It glides on the skin and works well with other cream based products. This one also works well with my more mature skinned clients.
Foundation Perfection: KA Does it Again
Ok, I have raved about KA products in previous reviews, but this is ridiculous! I use and LOVE KA's Sensual Skin Enhancer and I thought that this product was truly the best foundation on the market...that is, until I tried the Sensual Skin Fluid Foundation. Is it possible to improve upon perfection? Apparently KA says it is.
My Beautylish Bestie, Mel sent me two samples to try for a color match -- 8.0 and the new 8.5. The 8.5 was just right! The first thing I noticed was the incredible scent--this stuff smells fantastic! Secondly, when applied, this foundation literally vanishes into your skin. It feels like silk and leaves you with this gorgeous look that's neither dewy or matte. Your skin looks airbrushed. It's nothing like anything I've ever used before! I did follow Jaqueline and Alisha's recommendation to properly prepare my skin. I used KA's Sensual Skin Developer to prime my skin after washing and exfoliating (NIA24), toning (Indie Lee) and moisturizing (Korres Roses 24 hour). I also used the Celestial Skin Liquid Highlighter before applying the foundation. The product has a loose, watery consistency. It's very light weight yet you only need a little for medium coverage. It provides excellent coverage that is buildable.
After the foundation set, my skin had this natural hydrated glow that lasted all day. Simply amazing. I can't quite articulate how uniquely wonderful this product is. If you're on the fence about trying it because of the price, request a sample and experience it before making the investment. It's worth every penny.
Wow!
I am a fan of liquid foundations from dropper or from a pump, so I knew that the mechanism alone was going to work for me. I initially purchased SF08, which because I have neutral tan skin, thought would be the perfect color for me. However, it was slightly too light, so I returned the product and ordered SF09. Omg.....I have two other favorite liquid foundations that are my holy grails, but this surpassed both of them. I have oily/combination skin, depending upon the season, but it is typically dry here in Arizona regardless. I applied this foundation using a Real Techniques foundation brush, placing just a few drops into the back of my hand. I spray the brush lightly with prep and prime, and I couldn't even tell the difference between my skin color and the color of this foundation. I also could not tell that I had applied makeup to my face. It felt like my skin, but just silky. I always use a great primer first...I don't think it's necessary to do so with this foundation.....just habit for me to apply primer. I have occasional hormonal blemishes near the jawline, but they are covered immediately with just a few (and I mean four or five) drops. It's definitely buildable, and also has a pleasant smell that I cannot pinpoint, but not overbearing. The cost is irrelevant to me at my age (not old, just 40ish), because I'm looking for the best product for my skin. It doesn't feel oily, leaves a matte finish, but not cakey. SO, all that being said, clearly, I am in LOVE with this product. I HIGHLY recommend this product to anyone looking for flawless coverage, which doesn't oxidize on the skin, and lasts a minimum of 8 hours. (I work 12 hour shifts.) No greasiness throughout the day. I can go on and on, but you'll just HAVE to try it for yourselves. Thank you, Beautylish, for carrying such am amazing foundation! I couldn't be happier! xoxo, K
Very Unique
The Sensual Skin Fluid: This is really an ingenious foundation: It gives the skin a very very smooth luminous look. It's a light to medium/full coverage foundation that really does not move or transfer from the skin once it's applied. Consistency wise, it's creamy yet liquid like. In my opinion, the beauty of this foundation resides in the finish: It's not matte, it's not dewy, it has a very soft focus effect on the skin, like someone Photoshop'ed your skin; it softens up your skin texture and evens out and perfects your skins natural tone. Sounds weird, but it's true.
That being said, there is a learning curve to using this foundation. You must cleanse, exfoliate, tone, moisturize and lay down a good primer. I apply this foundation by placing a small amount of it on my fingertips from the dropper, and start on the nose and I blend it in an outwards fashion moving to the hair line. I use my Kevyn Aucoin foundation brush to apply it. If you want to build it up, it has to be done slowly, sparingly and in my opinion, one layer at a time.
Fair skin (SF 02 and SF 03) Light/Medium skin (SF 05, SF 06, SF 07) Medium/deep skin (SF 08 SF 09) Deepest (SF 13)
SF 02: Very Fair....Alabaster beige for very fair skin with neutral undertones. SF 03: Fair, yellow undertone SF 05: light, yellow undertones SF 06: light-medium skin with yellow undertones SF 07: light-medium skin with neutral to yellow undertones SF 08: Medium-deep with warm golden undertones SF 09: Medium-deep neutral to rosy undertone SF 13: Deep- neutral to warm undertones
If you are willing to spend the time nailing this foundations very slight quirks, I think you'll love it.
Love it!
I love the build-ability of this product and the fact that it self-sets (without being masky or drying). You only need about 4-5 drops, buffed into the skin, for a full-face of medium coverage. I also like to go back in with another drop or two after the first layer sets, to smooth out areas where I have some unevenness in tone. If you need more full coverage in small spots after *that* sets, you can always blend in a bit of the skin enhancer (or, alternatively, a dab of dermablend, or a cream concealer from your favorite palette).
A few tidbits I discovere: Be sure to exfoliate and moisturize well before you use this product.
Also, if you're a fan/ avid user of liquid or cream illuminators, I'd recommend dabbing/ buffing those on to your favorite spots after the foundation has set. I've tried using them underneath (as I'd normally do) for that bit of glowy goodness that they lend; however (on my combo skin anyway), the added product underneath sort of messed with the foundation's blendability (I'd even go so far as to say it compromised the integrity of the products claims, in terms of easy, flawless coverage). I found I had to buff and buff a bit more to get it to look 'settled' (if that makes sense) over a liquid or cream illuminator.
Lastly, I'd recommend using a cream/ palette concealer with this foundation, rather than a self-setting (and usually super matte) concealer. The reason for this, I found, was because on this foundation, even the most well-blended little spots of self-setting/ matte concealer will stand out as a tad bit obvious after a few hours of wearing this foundation. This foundation has a tendency to get ever so slightly luminous (I don't want to say 'dewy,' because it's not quite that) after a few hours of wear -- and I mean this in a good way! It looks like the type of luminosity you'd see on natural, super-healthy skin. And that's rad.... as long as that glow isn't stopped in places with spots of matteness. This was my experience, anyway!
(what can I say, I obsessed with light/ shadows) :)
Beautiful glowy skin a bottle!!!!!
I decided to try this after reading all the reviews, and let me say that this foundation does not disappoint!!!.. I used two drops and applied it with my Artis Oval 7. It's enough to give me lovely glowy skin that lasts my whole work day, so I can see this lasting me a good while.. For reference I am between NC15 and NC20, and this matches me brilliantly. It gives a medium coverage, so concealer is still a must for undereye and the occasional blemish. I have a really oily t-zone. This doesn't have oil-control, and it also didn't make me oilier than usual.. I read that it clings to dry patches, but I haven't noticed it doing so on my face.. I wouldn't recommend this if you have a lot of blemishes on your skin, or if you're looking for a full-coverage makeup, or if you're really REALLY oily.. I will definitely repurchase but given the small amount I need every time, it might be quite a while yet.
Summer in December
When I called and spoke to a advisor I gave the wrong info on my foundation I think I'm off by one shade but after bronzer and highlight my foundation was flawless I'm definitely going to use this foundation as my holy Grail it does drie really fast so I suggest you add highlight to the foundation for a dewy look cuz it is matte light to medium coverage
Gorgeous light-weight foundation
This is a lovely light-weight oil-free liquid foundation. I've been using the KA SSE SX11 which is just a tad too yellow for my skin tone, hence I was looking for other foundations to use.
My skin type: Oily, oily ... oily!
SF08 product texture: Very thin and watery, zero oil.
Application: Shake the bottle well before using as instructed :) I moisturise, prime, correct + conceal then use 1 full dropper to cover my whole face, using a foundation brush (Rae Morris #23 or Wayne Goss #10). Product is placed into the palm of my hand, picked up with the brush then dotted onto the face. It's easy to spread and buff gently into the skin (to avoid displacing my correction/concealing products). Didn't attempt to use a beauty blender - felt that the SF08 formulation, being oil-free, watery + very thin, would mostly get absorbed into the sponge and therefore less product would be available for the skin.
Colour: I'm a medium-deep. Got matched by the Beautylish Team. The SF08 matches well with my skin tone. It's slightly lighter in shade that my other foundations and less warm.
To compare with my other foundations: - Natasha Denona Glow #75 medium-dark. It's slightly deeper in shade than the SF08 and a more illuminating glowy foundation. So will use the ND#75 in summer and keep the KA SF08 for winter. - Natasha Denona Phenomattic Flawless Texture Foundation #7 shade medium-dark bisque. Matte foundation like the SF08 but more thicker/creamy plus it does not require any setting with powder.
Setting powder used: Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Finish powder.
Coverage: Medium to full, depending on how much prior correction/concealing product was applied. I only had to apply one layer of the SF08; this surprised me, since I've got a LOT of hyperpigmentation on cheeks, around mouth and on chin.
Final verdict: A gorgeous matte smooth natural look. A change from the other more creamy liquid foundations but the watery texture is easy to apply. Definitely will re-order :)
