New Year, New You

January always means resolutions, getting back to work, and an excuse to try new makeup looks! Spicing up your beauty routine with fresh lipstick and eye shadow combinations is a great way to feel like a brand new you. We spoke with New York City-based makeup artist Tina Turnbow for her three favorite new pairings. Whether you embrace a cool pink lip like the soft pouts at the spring/summer Chanel show, or a honey and caramel combo such as the African safari-inspired look modeled at Michael Kors, you have plenty of unique styles to experiment with.
WARM BROWN EYE SHADOW & COOL PINK LIPS

It may seem strange to mix warm and cool tones, but this combo is perfect for both the winter and summer months, plus it suits all skin tones! “The cool pink lipstick plumps up your natural lip shape, and the warm brown eye shadow flatters everyone," says Tina. For longer lasting eye color, apply the shadow with your fingers. "Patting the shadow into your eyelid makes it adhere to your skin better," says Tina.

HONEY EYE SHADOW & CARAMEL LIPS

A neutral, honey eye doesn't have to contrast with a bright lip. Keep your pout simple with a caramel gloss, just like the bronzed goddesses that walked in the Michael Kors show. "This look makes you look fresh, young, and healthy—which is exactly what you want in the colder months," says Tina. "For the perfect honey lip, line and fill in your lips with nude liner first, then apply your gloss."

SHIMMERY SILVER EYE SHADOW & BURGUNDY LIPS

Ideal for a night out, this pairing is a nice switch from the gold shadow and red lipstick you may have sported during the holidays. A matte burgundy lipstick that flatters your skin tone is easier to find than the perfect red and looks just as glamorous with metallic shadow. "Use a creamy eye liner in a matching shade to your shadow," says Tina. "The liner will make the shadow stick on your lids, prevent creasing, and ensure that your makeup lasts all night long."
