Okay so I always had some blackheads on my nose and pretty big pores and I sort of learned to live with that... now it has spread to my cheeks and that I can not live with!!
I read here all the time about girls using baking soda as a mask to clean out the pores, is that really safe!?!?! it doesn't sound to safe to me!

Exfoliating with organic sugar mixed with my daily face wash has always helped me.

I have a good skincare routine and my skin is in good health, and I do exfoliate, but nothing helps on these blackheads, I done every product available!!

Em did it remove blackheads for you?

I used to use baking soda and water and I was able to remove the blackheads on my nose and on my chin. It helped reduce my oil, and for a while controlled my breakouts.

Why did you stop Dorothea?

Well my skin took a weird turn during the summer and got really dry and sensitive so I had to switch to a different routine because the baking soda was too harsh for my skin. I mean my skin is usually pretty durable so I'd definitely use it again if I needed to.

I tried the baking soda and water paste once and I felt it dried my skin :/

Okay I just tried it! I mixed baking soda with a bit of water, applied, let I dry, and washed it of!

Oh my that worked!! The blackheads on my nose is noticeable smaller, they are not got but seriously they been there for years and years so I guess that would be to much to ask! But the ones on my cheeks are barley visible now!! That is crazy! Okay this might be bad for the skin (probably is with that weird feeling it give when applied haha) but I'm going to do it again in like a week to get rid of the blackheads and then when they are gone I hope my normal routine will be enough to keep them away!!

Thanks a million for sharing your stories!! I wish I had a before picture so I could show you how crazy the change is!!

Awesome that it worked Sabrina! Just be sure to moisturize your skin after and when applying the baking soda do so with a light hand so you don't cause any micro tears in your skin. Goodluck with everything!

How long did you leave it on before washing of Sabrina?

Jul 18, 2014

Sabrina K.

Oh yes I did a heavy night time moisturiser even tho it's day time just to be sure :)
And thanks Dorothea I will remember that next time :)

Hey Sabrina, here is a great article on the effects of baking soda on your skin: http://bit.ly/1p2p05R

Ultimately it's your decision but I think it's important to understand the risks. I'm also struggling with blackheads at the moment, and nothing seems to work, so I'm hoping to find some miracle mask or treatment some time soon :/ I'll let you know if I discover something, although right now I don't have much hope!

That's a good article Lizzy! I'm sure it's not good for the skin at all!! But I'm hoping not to cause to much damage if I just use it twice with is my plan! And yes let me know :) It sucks that those stubborn blackheads are so hard to get rid of!!

Ivette I left it til it was dry, which took about 3 minutes. it's rei fast! Please read the article Lizzy posted before trying it!

Oh thanks that's great! I washed it of used my toner and then moisturised :)

Oh okay, but don't I need to close up the pores after using the baking soda??

Thank you Sabrina, very informative thread (:

Sabrina, I would recommend still using a toner. Yes, both the baking soda and toner may be harsh on the skin, but you are counteracting that with a heavy duty moisturizer. I think it's more important to to make sure you get rid of all the baking soda in your skin by using a toner, even if you have to moisturize more than once afterwards. But it all depends on what you think your skin can handle.

It doesn't!?! haha Wauw I'm learning all kind of new stuff :)

Haha Sabrina nothing can ever close up the pore completely but itll help clean the pore out and minimize its appearance so it might "shrink" the pore but not close it up entirely. If youre going to use a toner then maybe use a toner for sensitive skin if the feeling is harsh on your skin.

You can use a chemical exfoliant to deep clean like a BHA or AHA also the OCM works for me. You can also search other threads about blackheads.

Yes I read like a million threads on here about blackheads, and they all talked about baking soda. What is BHA, AHA and OCM?

DONT DO IT!! Doesn't work.

Hannah, thats not very helpful advice. Try to explain why you think Sabrina shouldn't do it, and why it was a bad experience or didn't work for you. Just saying something doesn't work is not very helpful for someone because they don't why it's a bad product or etc. Just food for thought :)
