So I know a few girls that are in cosmetology high school and also girls that have went to a program put of school and now yes they have their cosmo license but in my state those schools are mostly hair and only spend literally two weeks on makeup and I'm not exaggerating but they are calling themselves makeup artists and saying gradient eyes are smokey eyes and blah blah blah when I have been teaching myself everything I know whether it be from watching people, getting advice from beatylish, or trial and error, or practicing on my family I feel like I know a lot more than what they teach and yet I do not call myself a makeup artist. I want your opinions on this because I take makeup pretty seriously and they are just throwing that title around like its something so little you can earn in two weeks! so let me know what you think of these cosmo schools and these girls saying they are MUAs with only two weeks of schooling on makeup.

I just feel like these girls that I'm talking about are just throwing it around like no big deal and spreading wrong techniques and etc.and they would be most likely hired to do makeup because their "cosmo license" than someone like me with no license but I've been learning for 4 years now and its really frustrating to me too.

I'm not a makeup artist but this is my opinion on it from what I havw learened from jackie there's certificates and diplomas they are 2 seperate things a certificate is just saying you went to school, a diploma means you had to pass a exam and a lot of things, do those people that went to school have more credibility then you because they went to school yes it doesn't matter if you have been studying makeup for 15 years a piece of legit paper saying you went to school for makeup will always make a huge difference even if there skills arent as good as yours and really thats just the way it is, this is going to sound exagerating but if you go to a doctor that has there diploma and one that doesn't who would you pick? I'm sure you would pick the one that went to school and thats why is always best to have something to back you up.

I see what you mean lili I guess its more the fact that they have only gained the title from a two week course and that they are being taught that graident eyes are smokey eyes since being on beautylish it has made that one if my biggest pet peeves is when these "muas" call it a smokey when its definitely not I guess thats why it really gets under my skin cause they will automatically think I'm wrong because I don't have the certification and they do I guess if this makrs sense.

I get what your saying it gets to me to or the orange contour but lets be real if it wasnt for jackie or alma we would have not known the difference either and would probably still think that was the correct name for it or the right way to do it, thats the reason why a piece of paper makes a world of a difference not just because it says you know your shit but because you learn from it to but if you take it serious you will make sure the school you go to is legit and not one just trying to hustle you.

Yes!! lili same here I learned all that from them too and I'm soo glad I did or I would be doing just that and I would be ignorant because I wouldnt know the difference! and jacqueline I waa so hoping you would comment because I truely feel like you shouldnt call yoursemf one if youve only been in a two week course and I really wanted to hear your prospective of a real make up artist and I look up to you so much and I feel like those girls would honestly be insulting the title in a way or thats how I feel there is so much knowledge that they are missing out and that you have making you deserve and 100% make you a professional makeup artist and not these girls. and like they so easily throw that title around when I have been teaching myself for four years and would never go out and blatantly tell someone "I'm a makeup artist" because I'm not I am working to be one in the future and when I can go to the right school to earn that title but thats just what it is, I'm not and would never tell someone I am lol

Okay... I completely get where your coming from... and I don't think just anyone should say they are a mua... I have so many friends who claim to be a mua that I graduated Cosmo school with and I have to explain to them that just cause your a Cosmo doesn't also make you a makeup artist... I am a licensed Cosmo but before that I was a freelance artist I never went to a specific makeup school but I went to lots of classes and practiced and perfects my skill... but there are a lot of self taught makeup artists I don't think you need to go to a makeup academy just to be one but I surely do think you need to have the skill set and proof to be one... it is a art... but you can't just say someone isn't a makeup artist just because they didn't go to school specifically for makeup... there are plenty of artists (painters, people who draw, and what not) that never went to school but they are still artists
but I do agree that there are to many people throwing it around who truly have no knowledge on it what's so ever...

Jacqueline had some great points as well especially with the disinfection... there are so many people who claim to be makeup artists but do not have any common sanitation skills

like I said before I didn't go to any specific beauty school but I do have a lot of certifications... and I have taken so many classes I have been working in the beauty industry since I was 13 taking classes working hands on in my aunts salon and doing freelance makeup
