Hey girls, I was just thinking about this and thought all of us may want to too. I was looking back at about 2.5 years ago when I first started wearing makeup, and how I've changed, my style has changed, and my makeup has changed. when I first started, I only wore foundation for some reason. I had face scars I was embarrassed by. then I started a little mascara and just foundation. I had shoulder length hair that I couldn't do anything with. then the year after, it all changed. I rarely wore foundation and I was obsessed with winged eyeliner! I was also very self conscious, and I had dark under eyes so I covered them up. then the year after I had a large burn scar on my face. I IMMEDIATELY covered it up once it healed. I did the same eyeliner and mascara almost every day but I hated my scar. I also had curly/straight natural hair, I hated it and straightened it every single day. but in the last few months, I've realized something. I've embraced my curly wavy hair that I previously could not stand! I've come to see that my dark circles arent that bad, and my scar is noticeable, but no one cares about it. I've come to see that I don't need a lit of makeup to feel pretty. being bullied made me feel like I did need that, but I'm taking a stand. I can feel pretty with a full face or no makeup, and all of you girls are too. believe me, you all are gorgeous with and without makeup. you all please share your story
thanks and love

Haha well many many years ago when I was a young teen I really wished I had tan skin, so I would buy the darkest foundation I could get my hands on (which in my country was Amber at the time) and I would wear an amber foundation despite I have porcelain skin. Ohh the horror!
At 17-18 I completely stoped wearing foundation and only used a little bit of powder. Then at around 25 I started using BB and CC creams - and now at almost 28 (!!) I just started buying foundation again - this time in the right color haha!

I started off with ELF's Complexion perfection powder, only the powder, and I used wayyy too much my face always looked chalky. Then I started wearing foundation, I was addicted to ELF products so I refused to look for other brands foundations. But the thing is ELF didn't have one light enough, so I constantly had a face a couple shades darker than the rest of my body XD Then I decided I wanted thin eyebrows, so I plucked them till they were basically non existent (Yikes) and completely lined my eyes with black eyeliner. I also didn't know or do a thing about skin care, I would go to sleep without removing my makeup, so my acne really flared up, and my foundation wasn't covering it at all, especially when it melted off in the heat of Texas summer XD Man I was a mess lol I stopped wearing foundation and focused on fixing my skin. I also let my eyebrows grow back in, and only cleaned up the shape a bit. I learned to embrace my thick dark eyebrows, even though everyone then thought I dyed my hair blonde (It is naturally blonde) I still embraced them! Funny story, once I dyed my hair darker, people stopped asking if I dyed my hair because it looked more natural than my natural color XD But now I have my skin under control and I actually use foundation that is made for my skin type and is my shade. I also only line the top of my eyes unless I add a pop of color below.

I started off thinking I should use all types of makeup, and now I like to stick to the minimum unless it is a special occasion! I also feel comfortable in my own skin, when I was younger I refused to leave the house without makeup, and now I don't care at all lol

I think this is a wonderful thread Madison!

I started wearing a little make-up in 8th grade. Before that, it was lip smacks or gloss...and that's it. I was 16 when I started to color my hair. My mom is from the old country, so I kept things chill...until I moved out. I honestly didn't want to upset her. I gave her plenty of grief as a metal head. I've always been all about the skincare, lipstick, eye liner and hair. Even so, I was never a girly girl. As a tomboy with psoriasis covering 75% of my body for many years, I suffered through some bad Derms and have permanent scarring. It improved as I got older, down to my scalp and select patches, but steroid creams thin the skin so I was/am plagued by the deep stetchmarks they cause. I take the very best care of my skin possible from head to toe and decided that since my jacked up body scars aren't going anywhere, let's make the body as fit and healthy as I can be...but I'm stepping that up with every new year. As for hair, I rocked it shaved, then big, punked up all over the place, but always with bangs. I remember heating up pencil eyeliner with a lighter. Good times. I wish I'd known about toner sooner!! Ugh! The golddd. Bleah. I was oldschool grunge which meant a few years where makeup was even more minimal. Much like the smokey eye definition, grunge is used for makeup that is nothing like actual grunge, but I digress.. I think that's about the time I started barely combing my hair...and I still rarely comb it. Whole head of hair a mess...bangs On POINT. I came into non-drugstore makeup just a few years ago. I still have some drugstore favs. I'm adventurous with my clothes and hair, but aside from my bold lip, (I have SO much red lipstick) I feel comfortable just throwing on my spf and CC cream most days. If I go out for the night, I'll do the real deal, winged eyes, etc. but I never used powder and still don't, nor have I tried contouring or highlighting other than a dab here and there. I'll get there one day...maybe. ;)

Wow, all these stories were so great to hear. When I first started wearing makeup, I just dove in, head first. I would line my (already small) eyes all the way around, then add blue eyeshadow and mascara. Then of course some hot pink blush. I didn't wear foundation or concealer, I probably didn't even know what that was. This was right around the time Facebook came out, so of course I have the horrid pictures haunting me, my little ten year old self. I was too afraid to wear makeup to school, so thank goodness that didn't happen, but my hair was at chin length, and I straightened it everyday. Then my mom splurged on me to a trip to Bareminerals for Christmas and my birthday. Talk about cake face. I got the ready foundation, which is terrible, I now realize, I don't recommend it. With an insane inner corner highlight, and gold and black eyeshadow. Straight brows (that weren't filled in) and no blush or bronzer, for I thought I was too pink naturally for blush (still feel this way but I try to step out of my comfort zone) and too pale for bronzer, so flat face I was. Then finally, I got to splurge on some Lancôme foundation, which I applied with a normal standard foundation brush, so I was streaky and had brush lines all over, and started wearing fire truck red lipstick, on the daily. Then I started watching YouTube, and now I think my makeup has come to terms with my face (I hope) and I've learned to step out of my comfort zone, and apply (probably too much) face products other than foundation. And my hair is just about "mermaid length" and blonde. Let's see how I feel about that this time next year though. :)

I can relate to you Sabrina! When I was 13 or 14 (I can't remember now it's a long time ago! :-O) I used to wear rimmel lasting finish foundation (the old formula in the tube) in the colour soft beige! I am definitely an ivory girl now! Also I never blended my foundation so you can image those hideous lines along my neck. I was practically orange :-/ I also never did my eyebrows I just left them alone product wise and just plucked them to an inch of their life. The embarrassment of it all. Thank god nowadays I'm older and wiser when it comes matching foundation and filling in my eyebrows  :-)

I started wearing makeup in 5th grade because all the other girls did it. When I first started out, I only wore powder and pink eyeshadow. I might've occasionally wore a brown mascara as well. Nothing much, but enough to make me feel like I was one of them. I've never had acne scarring or even acne in general. In 6th grade, blue eyeshadow was really cool and oh my gosh. why? I hadn't heard of blending yet so I had lots of harsh lines and nothing looked good. I still wore brown mascara and powder. In 7th grade, everyone had flawless skin and I thought the only way to achieve that was to wear foundation. I had now started wearing a full face of makeup and tried out eyeliner. I still hadn't heard of blending and I looked to weird and scary. In 8th grade, I rarely wore makeup. I was just lazy haha. Now, 9th grade, I wear a full face and I've finally heard of blending! Such a nice skill to learn (; My story isn't interesting, but hey, that's how it happened. 7-8th grade, my foundation had always been too dark or too light. I've finally found a good bb cream that's the perfect color for my skin!
