Louboutin $90 Lipstick Hype.

For those that haven't heard the king of the red bottom shoes has released a line of lipsticks that have unique packaging and a crazy price tag. $90 bucks for a lippie that comes in multiple finishes and $40 for a lip liner.

I love luxury makeup and have no issue spending the money on it but this one had me take a serious pause. So when I first caught wind of this a few months ago I wanted to know what the ingredients are as my lips are sensitive to certain ingredients and the last thing I wanted is another nasty reaction. Ingredients list passed. But I still wasn't too keen on the sticker price.

The colors...are they unique? After researching like a Ph.D candidate I realized there was nothing earth shattering in the color department. And as far as the different finishes available...sheer, matte and cream...can be found in more affordable lines (MAC comes to mind).

I'm not going to front...I wanted just one of these lippies. But the price held me back. After giving it much thought and knowing what I know about the cosmetics industry and how things are produced/marketed to the masses I came to the decision that it's just not worth the $90 bucks. The formula is nothing earth shattering and the true expense comes in the packaging and the name. My desire is no longer on fire for this and I'm not here to knock those who splurge on this but for myself personally I could not pull the trigger on this one.

I agree, Shelley. I was really excited because I thought I could own something "Louboutin", but there is No way I could justify that much for the lipstick. I'd rather invest it in a luxury perfume.

It just didn't make sense to me at all Tina to drop that kind of money on a lipstick. I would have to use it everyday before it turns bad. I'm just going to stick to my Tom Ford and Guerlain Rouge G collecting. And I love nothing more than finding hits at the drugstore...some which outperform high end brands.

I almost fell of my chair when I saw that price! I'm with on the being willing to spend the money on something truly unique... but I also did the research and the only truly unique about these is the packaging - which is beautiful! But not 90$ beautiful!
But I would loooooooove to hear from people who bought it, if its a different experience then other lipsticks :)

One of my aunts has it and she said the wear time is decent on the matte formula and actually leaves a stain behind. But she said her WetnWild MegaLast matte lippies do the same thing...leave a stain. This woman is the queen of bougie so for her to say that a $1.99 lipstick performs the same as a $90 lipstick speaks volumes. She bought it after I decided to take a pass on it. Now when I see it on YT or IG I don't even get excited about it.lol.

Interesting...haven't heard about it, and would certainly never waste money on it! It seems like a gimmick to get folks who can't afford or don't want to buy the shoes to get something else branded. My aunt works in a cosmetics manufacturing plant, and you'd be surprised how many different brands use the exact same formula!! Literally, she often says, "don't buy ABC brand lipstick for $30...it's the exact same formula as XYZ lipstick for $5, we just put it in a different box!" Not saying this is the same as a cheapie brand, but it definitely makes me wonder...

I saw this yday on YT from Tati. Same with her, I didnt get it at all. Not even the packaging. Too bulky for my purse unless I use my Neverfull. Still I find it weird. And if you put this in your purse you would surely put it in a box or it'll get ruin. Like really? I mean, you can buy a nicer lipstick less than this price. Like Tom Ford, Guerlain or YSL. I just can't justify spending that much. I would rather buy Mac palette. This for sure will last long. The pigmentation is not even that great. I can find lipstains for cheaper price.

Kat...so very true. The lab/manufacture situation is a reality many don't know about it.

Mylene...the packaging alone can double as a weapon.lol

Jackie...I learned about the phenomenon in college...for the life of me I can't remember the term (from economics) how one person values one item as worthy as another does not and will make purchase decisions based on how important it is for the consumer. I really wanted one of these lippies but after much internal debate and talking with others like Mylene I'll go for an eyeshadow palette or even a dang brush as you mentioned.

Do you have any idea how many Pizza Rolls I could buy with $90? *stomach grumbles* I splurge on skincare, so I won't begrudge anyone else a luxury or treat. I think the entire fashion industry takes advantage of our adorations with mark-ups. "Just when I thought I was out...they pull me back in!"

Ooooh yikes, I've seen them too and I really wanted to get them to just set up as decoration lol! It's like the Les Merveilleuses de Ladurée: Face Color Rose Ladurée Blushes I have, they are so insanely over priced for a blush ($170.00) and there is nothing outstanding about the formula... beautiful and the smell of roses is lovely. Luckily, my man bought it for me before leaving for the guard so they have that sentimental value to them but at least it's not my wallet that got the hit... this time.. geez sometimes vanity makes us want the silliest things. And because it's so expensive I rarely even touch them :x

I'm with ya Rozberry. Core skincare I have no problem dropping money on. Speaking of food...there is a $40 bottle of wine I can get that would go great with those pizza rolls. *I'm getting hungry*

This is why I love this community. What a great discussion about both perceived and actual value, and what we're really ready to spend that kind of money on. Shelley I'm with you. Great core skincare I'll pay big bucks for, but after working in high end retail while at university I'm less likely to spend on cosmetics. There are expensive products I'll fork over big bucks for, but I'm a lot more analytical about it.

Also, pizza rolls. Yum.

Bonnie...I can't mask my skin sins with makeup...skincare is the basis for its clarity and overall health. And if I'm tempted to get the latest and greatest foundation I think long and hard before I take the plunge. Happy to know you enjoyed this post. ;)
