My-lips-but-better lipstick theory.

Okay today I discovered a really interesting article about how to find the perfect nude lipstick: match them to your nipples.
I know. I had the same weird what the hell thought. But in their experience and the rest of the writers on the site's experience, it worked every time. And after reading the comments about how their favorite nude lipstick almost identically matches their nipples, I had to go check. And yes, in a bizarre discovery, and a semi awkward look at all my lipsticks, all of my favorite My-lips-but-better lipstick is the same shade or a shade off of the color of my nipples.

It's an incredibly weird theory yet makes perfect sense, since your own natural skin color palette is what seems to look best on everyone. I don't think anyone has ever thought the color of their nipples washed them out or looked bad against their skin tone or anything like that.

I'm legitimately curious if it's a 100% of the time thing, or if the staff and the handful of commenters just found a weird coincidence. I can't imagine it'd be a useful tool for makeup artists or anything like that, but for shopping for yourself this could easily help if you've been searching for the perfect my-lips-but-better color.

What are your thoughts? Perhaps this will help you find the perfect nude lipstick for you? I really never thought to myself that my boobs could help me decide what makeup would look good on me. Hahah.

Here's the article if you want to read more about it

That's pretty cool, ice always struggled to find the perfect nude lipstick

It's something I've never thought of Haha. Kvd lipstick in lovecraft is an exact match, and kvd lipstick in Cathedral is like a shade off so it's nicer with bold eyes that kind of wash out my lips. It is funny since they both came in a set and I was in love with them as soon as I put them on. I have a few others that are very similar but I don't like the formula, and it's definitely a bizarre realization Haha.

This is true in my case and I can imagine it to be true for most people with lighter skin but I can't help but think of my bf who is asian but very dark, his nipples are like super dark brown (tm lol)... If I were to match a lipstick, it would be nice on his skintone but it wouldn't be considered a nude... Just wondering if this would be the case for very dark girls and woc! Very interesting though

Lara
Yea I'm noticing that the people commenting are light skinned so I don't see this working for dark skinned woc
I'm Asian and very brown. I'm always used to seeing dark nipples that I didn't even know pale ones existed till I moved to the USA

Hahahahah that last part killed me Ari!! But I think the same as you, some peoples nipples are significantly darker especially when they're tan or dark.

The article has a few darker toned skinned people who did it too. There's like 2 Asians as well. It was still nude, just not white nude. It would be their lips but better still, since darker toned people have darker toned lips.

From the article. It definitely works on asian skin.

And a darker toned girl, obviously not super dark but they only had the girls at the one location try it and report back.

Direct quote from the article as well.
"I'm sad that my contributors with darker skin felt this nipple-matching theory wouldn't work for them. I'm a big proponent of the idea that a "nude" lip color means your nude; or, in this case, your nipple color—if it's beautiful on your boob, it's probably beautiful on your face. But their misgivings come from a place of beauty "rules" typically applying pretty strictly to white women, so their reluctance is understandable.

"Beauty trends often ignore women of color, and it pisses me off," Victoria told me.

"While this beauty rule has the potential to work really well for those with very fair complexions, it's a pretty unanimous wash for those of us on #TeamDarkSkin," Lauren echoed.

I think that they'd look amazing in their respective nipple-matching lip colors, though. In fact, if the ladies above are any indication, my theory works better on everyone else than on me!"

Obviously this will not get you the trendy nude of a super pale white girl, but it will get a perfect your lip but better shade, which on darker skin is usually much darker or brown/pink/warm toned. Regardless of skin tone, it will get a super flattering color on your skin tone. When you use a nude lipstick that's way to light, no matter your skin tone, it will most likely not look all that flattering. But darker nudes, that matches to your skin color palette, will look good.

It's like if I wore a super dark brown shade, its not a My-lips-but-better color or the perfect nude, but on a woc who is quite dark, it could easily look like a My-lips-but-better nude shade. Same way reversed with super light shades

I don't think that works for darker people , I'd have deep brown "nude lips"

I agree with Chelsea I don't think it would work the same for darker people.

That's an interesting theory but it has so many flaws. For one thing, a "nude" lip is not the same as a "your lips but better" lip shade. To me, a nude is lighter than your own lip color. And a YLBB lip is slightly richer or a tad brighter. Also, I agree this theory alienates darker skin toned women. Not to mention, there are some lighter skinned women with darker nipples esp. after having children.

Marleen, you're absolutely right! I showed this article to my sister, and she said, "Yeah, well my nipples are purple after having a kid." I don't think purple counts as nude lol.

Ha! ha! Purple! I laughed so hard, I cried!

That doesn't really work for me. Mine are more of a tan/light brown whereas my lips are more reddish pink but close to my skin color so not really a my lips but better if I use a shade close to my nips

I'm Asian/ Latina so my nips have more brown to them.
I've tried more brownish nudes but they don't compliment my coloring or look good, kinda muddy/dull.

I know the beauty rules are Eurocentric
I don't use white girl nudes in the first place
My lips are pink and my nipples are brown
Those two Asian girls from the article are lightskinned so that's not great evidence

I always think of them kinda the same, because a mlbb color is usually a nude, since most lips are somewhere on a "nude" skin color. And a mlbb is an enhanced nude, so a pale more pinky brown color for me. Which is why the Asian girls in the article are darker brown and one a bit purple, but it still looks quite natural. A lot of the comments on the article are from darker toned women and they say the same thing, it works but it's not white girl pale nude. But I think in just about all cases it would still be a very flattering color, regardless of how light or dark it is. Of course like in the article if you tan or fake tan or use anything that alters your natural color palette it sometimes doesn't work. The author fake tans her face but not her boobs and so hers washed her out and looked muddy. But either way, whatever color your nipples are, they look flattering on your skin tone, so it would give you a flattering color as long as your face is close to the same color. I posted it on my fb as well and quite a few of my friends who are darker, Asian, native, and black found it worked for them. One of my friends said it didn't but she got a boob job and replaced her nipples. That was the only one though. But a friend who is very dark tried it and even though it was a beautiful purpley dark brown color, it was still an enhanced skintoned color, and a relative who has more native blood than me, hers was this very redy light brown color and she said she had to mix a ton of colors but once she got it it was very flattering. But like I said above, I don't think it'll always give you a pale nude color, I mean I'm super pale and it's not even light for me, but it's still a nude skintoned color, and it's flattering on almost every one who tests it. If that makes sense lol.
