Perfume for Your Closet: DIY Linen Spray

1571

Perfume can perk you up, but if you’re behind on laundry, you’ll need more than a dab behind the ears! Thankfully, it’s easy to whip up a batch of linen spray to keep your wardrobe smelling fabulous—even those pesky dry-clean only items you never get around to dropping off at the cleaners.

Unlike perfume, which might stain or fade fabrics, linen spray won't harm your garments. Pick a single-note signature scent, or mix a couple ingredients together to make an original blend. Grapefruit-mint is refreshing, while lavender-tangerine is relaxing and uplifting. Try clary sage to purify or add a feminine touch with rose or gardenia. Not only will your closet smell better, but you’ll stay fresh and save money on pricey perfumes. Spray on!

You Will Need

• 1/2 tsp or 50 drops of essential oil of your choice
• 1/8 cup unflavored vodka (top shelf not necessary!)
• 1 3/4 cup filtered water
• 16-oz. spray bottle
• small funnel

To make it, simply funnel all ingredients into your spray bottle, cap it, and shake it up!

To use, spray directly onto a garment that's in need of a refreshing pick-me-up (work uniforms and items that didn’t make it to the laundry pile are good candidates). You can also spritz any clean laundry before ironing to give it a scent that lasts all week. Make a double batch and gift one to a favorite friend. You can even add a custom label—try colored tape or decorated label paper.
