Hello all. Newbie here from Liverpool. Nice to meet you. I was wondering about Biotin or Bioteen? My best friend said to use it to grow hair and I was asking if it worked or nah?

Is it Biotin or Bioteen.

Biotin, and no. You shouldn't take it without consulting a doctor, if you don't ask your doctor you can end up in the hospital.

Can I call the doc or must I have an appointment.

Yes, use it. Just be careful w/ the dosage (the current chewable biotin I have is double the dosage that one should get daily & I had to cut in half--caused extreme thirst :-(. It's helped tremendously w/ my hair growth.

You can just call the doctor and ask if Biotin is safe to take without a real need. I've heard it can be dangerous to take without a Biotin deficiency, but I have never seen anyone hospitalized or hurt by it. A friend takes it and says it hasn't really done anything, but her nails are much stronger/thicker. That's it though.

Ask your doctor...but I've heard even from some female doctors that crushing prenatal vitamins and putting them in your shampoo and conditioner helps or just taking prenatal vitamins.

Yea it works I noticed more of a difference in my nails though than my hair. be careful with the dosage though it is said to cause weight gain if taken too much or excessively.

Yeah make sure to talk to your doctor. taking them when unnecessary can cause you to become deficient in something else. also, if you don't need it it'd be a waste of money because you'd basically just pee it out lol. my friend on here's mom was actually sent to the hospital because she was taking it :/

Yes, I use it and I certainly noticed a difference in my hai growth. It's over the counter so if you have no underlying health problems, I'd go for it! It's also nourishing for your nails (strengthens them and makes them grow) and skin (makes it brighter and healthier looking).(:

I wouldn't take them without doing a blood test from your doctor and seeing if your deficient.
The side effects of overdosing on any vitamin is horrible. Some people can overdose on the one a day vitamins, and the dose for biotin that they sell is really high. If you take to much and don't need it, it can actually give you the opposite effect and cause brittle nails, dry hair, hair fallout, breakouts on the skin and many other extremely serious side effects that could potentially be life threatening. On the commercials for biotin at the bottom it says may lead to kidney failure, among a lot of other scary life threatening things. Definitely do not just call your doctor, it's not worth the risk just to *maybe* have nice nails.

I'm on and off medication and I've asked my doctor about biotin since one of the medications I was on was causing acne and my hair was drying, and he went into this big rant about how he's had a ton of his patients come in very ill because of overdosing on it, and he's sent 3 (this was 6+ months ago, so it could be higher now) of his patients to the hospital for emergency help. He basically said if you do not need it, it's not worth the hundreds of side effects it can cause and the potential ER trip.

Yes but I have heard it isn't even FDA approved. I don't want to end up in the clinic.

I also take it w no issues but if your concerns you can talk to a pharmacist for their take on it as well. I agree w chanel something may work for one but not the other. as for the FDA approvel...the weight loss drug phen fen among many others was FDA approved and look how well those turned out
