With makeup classes they only show you the right technique, like blending, smudging, but everything else like using colors and creating or matching looks are stuff you pretty much pick up yourself from experiencing what looks good and what matches you best.

Well I know with the school courses in my area, they aren't the best. Now, if you know the teacher is a good one then it might be worth it, but the students usually need more experience /practice when they finish. If it's anything like the schools in my area, there might not be enough one-on-one teacher-to-student explanation time :)

They're worth it. in my high school they offered cosmo and a lot of girls took it and once they graduated they had their license/certification to do hair etc.

I say she should go for it, you can't rely on makeup alone sometimes if you truly want to make a impact it's even if cosmetology gives the basics in it you still can learn about other aspects of the trade and if she truly wants to be in the industry why not take the class? It will benefit her in the long run she can be a jack of all trades.Think about it makeup and hair is a growing industry and this could work to her advantage for the future in the field she wants to pursue.It's a great start and if they offer it in high school take it. :-) I get that it may be something she thinks could be a waste of time because she's a teen lol but I promise it's a start towards something great to keep working on.

I took a cosmetology class in high school and I absolutely loved it, I think it was worth it afterwards she can take the test to get her license but I do suggest that when she is done with it she looks into taking some extra classes because I feel like I didn't learn everything I could but I did learn a lot but as for the makeup I had a guy as my teacher so we didn't get into a ton about makeup mostly just hair but other classes had female teachers and I know they did learn a lot about makeup with them, I highly suggest it.

It's a good opportunity she should take advantage of. In the long run it will save her a lot of money as far as tuition cost if she decides to attend beauty school after high school. I was enrolled in a cosmetology program at my high school and it was very well worth it. As long as she's dedicated and serious about it she should definitely look into it and go for it.

Your welcome Janelle.What some people don't understand is that being a MUA is a lot of work it's not just instagram pictures of yourself or cut creases and smokey eyes lol online notability is not a factor in the real world of makeup.You have to know what your doing and how your going to make a business out of it.This industry is a cut throat diva and pretty looks don't always get you to where you want to be.You must bleed foundation and never think you have learned everything there is to know about it.You must always be willing to be better and learn more :-)

My school did this and it was worth it IMO. You used your last two years and went through the cosmetology program...took your boards after and became licensed if successful. You are now a cosmetologist!! A lot of my peers used it to have a career out of school and used it as a platform to do other things.

Well at my highschool the teacher basically knows nothing and half the time she just tells you to do whatever so at my school twas not worth my time I wasn't learning anything but every school is different she should ask any of her friends who took the class they could let her in on if the class helped them :D hope I could help

She will have a cosmology licence before she even graduates ,the offered that in my high school as well it's the same licence any cosmologists would have definitely worth it she can take makeup classes later having a licence to actually work on skin is always a plus.

I took cosmetology in high school. its worth it. it was a lot cheaper then a private cosmetology school and when I graduated high school, I also finished cosmetology school and got my career going at a young age. I started doing hair when I was 18. I'm 31 now and have 13 years of experience. I'm going to say this...I think going to fancy, expensive big name cosmetology schools are a waste of money. pretty much everything you learn in school doesn't really matter once you get into an actual salon. so tell your cousin to go and start young. its the best thing I could have done :-)

My best friend has her Cosmo license since hs.. its cheaper that way.. n if she already wants to b in beauty she should definitely do it.
