I have never used a primer before but I'm thinking of adding one into my makeup routine. What are some good ones? Preferably oil-free! Thanks!

High end: Hourglass veil mineral primer
Drugstore: Neutrogena shine control
I love both of these :)

I agree with the hourglass mineral veil, it feels so smooth. I love it
For drugstore I like rimmel fix and perfect (:

One question, is thAt primer silicone based? I've heard primers with a high silicone content can cause skin irritation so just wondering what you think about that. Thanks!

It does have silicones. It has never irritated my skin but that's probably just one of those things that varies from person to person. You might want to try out a sample :)

True, my skin isn't overly sensitive and normally as long as a product is oilfree I don't have problems so I think I will try it out! Thanks again!

Hourglass veil mineral primer is what I use every time I wear makeup. I have oily skin and it helps my make lasts a long time.

Is the best way to apply it just with your fingers?

I have extremely sensitive skin and the hourglass primer has never made me break out. To be honest I'm not in love with it though, I know everyone raves about it but I guess I don't get the hype. It makes my makeup last a bit longer but I still get shiny after a few hours. I find in the winter time my skin sometimes gets random dry patches on my face and sometimes the primer makes those dry spots noticeable.

Thank you Shauna! The main reason I'm looking for a primer is because I've heard it helps foundation look less cakey and more smooth...but then I've been hearing a lot about how many primers, like you've said, highlight dry patches so I'm not sure if I should invest in one or not.

If you have dry skin or dry patches then I would avoid any primers with silicone in them. What kind of skin do you have?

Combination skin. The foundation I've been using is sephora perfection mist and I absolutely love it because 1) it's a perfect match for my skin tone and 2) it gives me the right amount of coverage without feeling heavy but it gets a little powdery around my chin area and on my cheeks. Honestly it's not That bad I could live with it but if a primer would fix it then I would buy one.

I heard smashbox photo finish light is silicone free or low silicone

I know Sephora has a silicone free primer. I actually just got a sample of the Smashbox photo finish light, I haven't tried it yet but I'll let you know how it is! My friend used it and it started to break her out and she doesn't have sensitive skin so I'm a bit unsure about it. Also check out Fresh Rose FreshFace Primer, Korres Pomegranate Mattifying primer.

I think the RoC primer is very similar in feel to Hourglass... for less. Great for the eyes, too.
