So what would you do?

So ladies I've found myself in an interesting situation (or maybe not yet, but it's a possibility) and need some help.

I went to an interview for a seasonal cashier position at the standalone Sephora opening up near me (Springfield, VA). I feel like I did a good job at the interview and the woman interviewing is said she'd go over the notes with the manager and give those who made it to round two a call back on Friday to let them know if they got a second interview. She let us all know that typically they keep 80% of seasonal people as long as they do a great job.

Now, I went for an interview at my JCP Sephora last month, got hired to JCP and had a surprise (literally I had no idea it was happening) interview with the Sephora manager when I went to fill out another application as they couldn't find mine. Thought I tanked as I had on no makeup and looked like I got straight out of class but I got a class yesterday and turns out I got the job!

So my question is, assuming all goes well and I get through the Sephora interview process at the stand alone store, what would you ladies do? Work at the JCP store where there's a permanent position or go to the standalone store where it's seasonal with the possibility of being permanent?

I think it depend if you have children, bills, ect. If I really didnt have all tht I'd take the job at sephora lol but since I have responsiblities I would end up taking the one tht is for sure more stable and long term. but hey maybe at sephora thyll like the way you work and hire you long term.

I would take the offer. I'm just speaking in general, and it's not that I doubt you in any way, but it's not guaranteed you'll get a second interview. Even if you do, it's also not guaranteed that you got the position. Plus it's seasonal, so you run a risk of not being added permanently to the team. If it were me, I'd take up JCP on their offer. Take advantage of what's already been given to you.

I agree with M G on if you have kids & need a stable job, but I use to work at JCP (not the Sephora) but the store didn't have much compared to the stand alone & didn't get as much business. So I'd say go for the stand alone store as you'll more than likely have more opportunities & knowledge on products to help customers better :)

I have bills, but no children, and a full time job already. The only thing is I'm a little worried about working at a JCP Sephora right now and trying to go to a big Sephora later. The ladies in my area that work at the stand alone stores do not think highly of JCP workers at all. But my favorite consultant at a larger store did come from a JCP store (though she had to quit as its not possible to just transfer) so maybe there's hope.

Even so, I'd still take it and wait for a permanent position to open up at the freestanding one. They already have met you and liked you, so I don't think working at the JCP one for a while would affect your chances later on down the road, you know?

Didn't even realize you guys had posted after MG. @_@

@Alli - And that's there most of my concern, all of it really, lies. There are a lot of ifs, even if I do get called on Friday. So I think what I'm going to do is see if I get a call and if I do or not just take the position at Penny's as I know it's not seasonal and it'll give me a chance to get my feet wet in Sephora.

I would 100% agree with that decision, and I think that's the smartest way of going about it. Congratulations on the offer!

I agree, I would definitely take the job already offered. Even if they don't think highly of the JCP stores, you'll be getting experience with Sephora and their policies and whatnot. Some things will be different because of the added department store element, but overall it will be good to have that experience. If the freestanding store passes you up because you worked at one inside JCP then that's messed up lol. Both because they will be passing on an employee that is already trained and because that's a division of their own brand lol. Congrats!! I soo wish there was a Sephora close to me. I want to work at one soo bad

If you will have no worries about bills and stuff, and you think you would like the stand alone better, I say go for that:) your makeup skills are pretty awesome from what you share on here so you've probably got a good chance at becoming a perm. worker!

I worked at the jcp one it was a great experience!! it's a little more one on one at the jcp store :) people appreciate that and come back for you which is better business in the long run! I really liked the jcp one you get great gratis. the big one can be overwhelming at times especially during the holiday!

And the one I worked at we worked well with the big one, we always shared things called to see if they had something we did not and vica versa, unfortunately sephora is not my thing working wise but I have had plenty of other makeup related jobs and nobody looked down on the fact that I worked at jcp :) hope this helps
