I'm getting accutane in about a month or two so I have to be put on birth control for safety reasons and I wanted to know if the birth control would make my acne worse or better? And also in the beginning if the accutane would I get more acne or less?

I've been watching a friend of mine on here that's just started using accutane and from what she's mentioned, it gets worse before it gets better with accutane. I'm not sure of birth control with it but I do know both control sometimes helps clear acne too. :) hope that helps a bit.

I really do not recommend wasting your time, hope, and money on accurate. The side effects are HORRIBLE and even though my skin was completely clear after about 5 months of taking it, I started breaking out again just 3 or 4 months later and have not been able to get my skin under control again. I wish I had never wasted my money on it. I am also convinced that it has given me permanent back pain. Waste waste waste and not worth it whatsoever.

I dunno about accutane but I was on birth control for my acne and it didn't do anything for me
It made me angry all the time, and it made no effect on my face
Also, be careful with which birth control you use
My doctor prescribed me to a birth control that caused blood clots in lungs and legs, and he neglected to tell me that until I told him I had chest pains after a month of taking the pill
Luckily, it wasn't a blood clot it was something else
So
I guess just be careful in your birth control selection and do your research
The brand I took was called Diane

I can't say anything about accutane because I haven't been on it, but I am on birth control right now. I've been on it for 5 months and although it hasen't completly cleared me up it sure has improved my skin. Before I started I had a ton of pimples all the time, and a few large under the skin pimples that hurt so bad. But now that I have been on birth control, I only get a couple of pimples and never get any under the skin pimples. I am completly happy with my birth control and what it has done for my skin. I am on the brand called Alysena-28.

Thanks so much all of you! I understand it much better now. I'm enrolled to get the treatment for free because of how severe my condition is

Oh trust me I had tried everything as well. And a second round was not an option when it gave me such bad back pain. But hey, it's your body and money. Hopefully you all don't have the same experience I (and many other people) have had.

Well, I've never tried accutane before, but I'm on birth control right now and it did improve my acne over time. But then again I started using new cleansers too so those might have helped as well. All I know is that, my acne didn't get worse while on birth control so that made me happy.

Depending on what birth control you're on, it could get better. I just went to the lady doctor yesterday for this. I got my pills switched to orthotricyclen in order to see if that would improve my skin. good luck tho. :)

I'm on Nexplonon (I think I spelt it right) but its the one that gets inserted in your arm and able to see through an x-ray. It gets replaced every 3-5 years and it has helped me keep my acne under control.

Gabriela, I may have misunderstood but if you only took the Accutane for 5 months that might be why it came back.

I can't remember the exact formula, but the doctors have an equation for working out how many miligrams of Accutane you should have taken in total by the end of your treatment by using your body weight. I had to take it for 13 months (although it actually should've been longer) and now, 6 months later I am extremely happy with the results.

Vanesa, I wrote about my whole Accutane experience here if you are interested in reading: http://beautyrevised.blogspot.com/2013/06/my-accutane-experience.html?m=1

My worst side effects were mood swings & dry lips, but it was always manageable. A lot of people discouraged me from trying the Accutane, but the way I saw it, it was basically my last resort, and if the side effects got too bad, at least I would know that it wasn't an option anymore.

Within 2 weeks of Accutane my skin was clear save from two pesky pimples...and then it just went crazy. I had pretty bad breakouts for about 2-3 month. I'm not saying this to scare you, I promise! :P Everyon's experience is different, but you should be prepared for some flare ups at the start. The good news: There is hope! And the end results are worth the suffering.

All the stories I've'e ever heard on Accutane were amazing! Like Jacqlyn for example, you can already see a noticeable difference in her skin. And for birth control, this may vary from the person, but, birth control gave me back acne and a little bit of chest acne and blemishes on my face only got very bad when I would start my period. I stopped taking birth control at the end of March, and my back acne and chest acne is going away & my face is very clear! I only get about 4 pimples a month which come out when I start my period, but other than that, birth control won't be that bad ☺️

My brother is on accutane, his skin is extremely sensitive to sunlight now and he has to wear sunscreen everywhere. I'm on birth control and it really doesn't make a huge difference except I don't have monthly breakouts due to hormones.

Well I took it for as long as the doctor advised me to. I cleared up after five months and since it was so expensive, I was having back problems, and my skin was clear, I really had no desire to continue on taking it. And the dermatologist didn't seem to have any objections to stopping the treatment. I even think he suggested it.
