Hello, so i'm graduating high school this year in june and it's basicly the beginning of my life and what i want to do with it. I decided i wanted to go into beauty , more specificly makeup artistry. it's a passion i'm really determined to pursue . i decided to go to cosmetology school, and before everyone starts telling me not to , the main reason i want to do it is because i want to get a general knowledge of everything beauty, it's a course dealing with not just hair, but skin , face, feet etc. but my main objective after i finish is to pursue the career of a makeup artist, but there are so many different jobs a makeup artist can do , i had originally want to start working in a counter but i'd like to know how i can get there and what other types of jobs a makeup artist can do . All in all i'd like to know what are some important steps i need to take to become a Makeup Artist

You need to have confidence in yourself and your abilities and it honestly just takes practice. A lot of practice on people wit different eye/face shapes, shades of skin color and personalities. I believe it's not only important to know how to apply makeup but also how to make the client feel comfortable.

Now when it comes to getting hired in a counter, I've seen people that DON'T EVEN KNOW HOW TO APPLY MAKEUP work in a freaking makeup counter. It's all about putting your resume out there and giving off a great first impression when you're being interviewed. Remember to always look/act professional and smile! :)

Makeup is an artistic career that takes a lot of imagination. There are so many possible roads you can go down with this career just imagine where you want to see yourself. When I'm teaching my ladies & gents we actually do a brainstorming session forcing them to "think outside the box" when it comes to careers. I find this portion of the lesson plan to be very useful because all the students start to build off of each others ideas and they develop a career plan suited for their skills, their interest and their life style...designed by them making it easier for them to know how to go about implementing it. In the beginning of the course while most of them usually said they wanted to become a MUA so they can work at a makeup counter (usually MAC), by the time we finish the brainstorm they all want to take their skills into careers I would have never even thought of. So, I say again, there is a lot you can do with your career just sit down and think about what it is you want to do, where you want to be, how much you want to make, how much you want to work, what do you like doing, what do you want to avoid doing, what you are skilled to do, etc. Good luck!

thank you, i'm definetly thinking of all the possibilites right now
