I've been thinking about getting a job and I have a huge interest in painting nails. I paint mine all the time with interesting designs and do others as well, like friends that come over and such for weddings, etc.
Not any recent nail work has been uploaded on my beautylish so don't look at those! But for any of you who work in a nail salon, is it hard to get a job? The ones I have around here are mostly Korean ones (we have a large korean population) and I'm scared they won't take me in because I'm not Korean like them :(

Well I'm just saying what I've heard, I don't know for certain, but to work in a beauty salon whether you are doing nails, waxing, hair, make-up etc, you need qualifications and insurance to cover yourself and your clients should anything go wrong.
As for getting a job in a salon, I don't know, I'd imagine they would want to see portfolio of your work?
Again, this is just what I've heard :)

You will need to be licensed in your state to legally be a nail tek but courses are usually short, around six months or so. Check out programs in your area. If it is your passion, don't let anything hold you back! :)

It's pretty easy getting a job at a nail salon but you will need a lot of clients but it took me three months to finish my courses

Depends on your location, but if you're that passionate, you should get licensed or atleast find a nail tech who can mentor you. You could start by applying to salons and day spas in your area for unlicensed positions, like shampoo or front desk. Then, by the time you get licensed, you're already have your foot in the door!

It depends on the location. Just keep trying. In the mean time, you should start out small. Like your own business. Make little business cards, tell your friends to spread the word. Wgo knows? You'll probably have your own little business. If your really good for a cheap price, trust me it will wirk out for you. :)

Don't all states require licenses to perform services in salons?

I'm almost positive you would need to be licensed first and foremost

And TheMani has a good idea! Start charging decent prices and taking all the pictures you can to build your portfolio!

You need a manicurist license first to be able to work at a nail salon.

I have pretty much given up on finding a job in a nail salon around here as most are owned by Asians and they seem keen with my cv (Fully qualified and also entered competitions such as world skills uk) but I don't exactly fit in with their Image and it also feels rather uncomfortable when they start to talk about you, in front of you, in their own language.
It kinda feels like I'm trying to join the Mafia!
Also a lot of places want you to have a minimum of two years experience working in a salon post qualifying.
Build up a portfolio of work and practice like crazy, those Koreans are insanely fast at doing nails! I wish you the best of luck!
