I have started growing my nails longer, cause I suddenly fancy long nails. this change has started giving me pimples and zits. I think its because I touch my face too much, and long nails are one of the main contributors to pimples. how can I have long nails but not have pimples?

Try not to scratch your face with your nails, wash your hands more often, carry hand sanitizer with you, etc.

I'm not sure really if it is your nails giving you pimples to be honest. I would rule out other factors because seriously how dirty would your nails need to be to give you pimples? Check your diet and your make up. Oh and don't pick at your face that can worsen your pimples with or without nails.

I've never heard anything about having long nails gives you acne or of any link between the two?

I can definitely see a connection. It's somewhat related to touching your face after touching food, especially greasy food. The grease could get under your nails and then when you scratch your face or even just touch your face, you're making it easier for bacteria to seep into your pores and whatnot.

There's definitely a connection, why do you think nurses and health care workers can't have long nails? You can wash your hands often and keep a good skin care routine to help prevent pimples.

I agree with Shanae. Your nails harbor a lot more bacteria than you would think, and that's even more likely to happen with longer nails. The best thing you can do is not touch your face!

It is true that longer nails carry more bacteria and dirt than short ones, just not enough to give you pimples if you wash your hands like anybody else does. I'm talking from experience and from all the people with longer nails that I know. Like I said my advice is checking your diet and the products you are using on your face.

I also recommend getting a nail brush if you don't already have one. So much bacteria can build up behind nails adding to breakouts if you have a face-touching habit. I use one every time I wash my hands at home.

I wouldn't say it's long nails causing your spots I would say it's not keeping your nails clean that's causing them possibly clean under your nails everyday with a nail brush and obviously wash your hands when you should.
