Does anyone have pastel hair? If so what kind of dyes have you used and what has worked best in your experience? Also do you dilute the dye with conditioner, if so what kind of dyes did you dilute?

Direct dyes (manic panic, directions, special events, punky colors etc) are not a one fits all things. What lasts the longest and doesn't fade in your hair will need trial and error to figure out. The dyes are basically vegetable pigment mixed with conditioner. But it really depends on the porosity of your hair, how dry it is, how damaged it is, what color it is, the molecular size of the colors, etc.
So when people say that something fades immediately for them, it doesn't mean it'll fade that quickly on you.
I find on my hair special effects lasts the longest, I can get a good 2-3 months without dying before it fades enough to redye.
Manic panic lasts about 2 months on my hair. I find the blues last longer than the reds.
But punky colors fades within a week in my hair.
Ion, though not a veggie dye, has fun colors and I hate it. It doesn't last long at all on my hair, maybe 4-5 washes, but it leaves behind a tint og the color that's never pretty, and has intense possibility for staining the hair shaft. As someone who dyes their hair frequently and changes the colors, this is a horrid option for me. But if you plan on sticking with the same color till you cut it off or dye black, then it could be perfect.
It really is trial and error on what reacts best with your hair.
