Make sure you exfoliate before hand!! And shave everywhere. Because if you shave when you have the tan sometimes it can take it off.

I'm a spray tan artist & prepping is very important!
*exfoliate about 24 hours beforehand including shaving which will help exfoliate your skin & you want to try to not shave as much after your tan
*don't use any products with mineral oil before or after
*don't use any oil based exfoliant it will act as a barrier between your skin & tan
*arrive in loose dark clothes, sandals, and be prepared for rain (be covered and bring an umbrella)
*I disagree with megan about moisturizing. you do want to arrive without any deodorant, makeup, etc.on your skin but moisturized skin will hold your tan better and longer. don't apply any thick body creams or butters but a very thin light layer of moisturizer (check ingredients) can be very beneficial especially if you have dry skin.
*when your skins pH level isn't balanced it can cause the dreaded orange color, & of course bad solution can cause this as well
which goes into my next point. I don't want to detour you from a booth but a huge portion of my clients are people who did a booth & come to me to fix it. a booth doesn't know your body shape, your skin type and tone. I spray less on the hands, knees, elbows, feet and underarms (underarms naturally don't tan as dark so this helps achieve a natural tan), a booth cannot decider this and sprays the same amount of solution over your entire body which can cause those areas to have excess color and look very unnatural. I also do one coat and assess how my clients skin is reacting to the solution, if it's soaking it up more or less than normal, if there are areas of pigmentation, etc.I am able to see these things and correct these problems as I finish off with the last coat. Are all booths horrible? No. I've tried many & have had a few ok experiences but more bad than good, and honestly none as good as an actual person. Just a little bit of advice, I don't want to scare you, if it's not a special occasion it's worth the try but in the future I'd keep this all in mind especially since a custom airbrush tan is usually around the same price as a booth and even sometimes less depending on where you live & go. Of course, just as booths can give a bad experience, there are airbrush techs who may not be as good or take pride in their job but usually you can find reviews on the person & before and after pictures to show what they're capable of. Good luck and I'd love to see pictures!
