How to Give Your Man a Makeover: Brows

Published Oct 09, 2011

For some guys, brows are just those two things above their eyes that remain untouchable. For us girls, this can be a problem. Luckily for everyone, men’s grooming is on the rise, as is the amount of guys heading into salons to get their brows trimmed. A brow trim or clean-up not only makes your guy look more polished and better taken care of, it can also make him look more awake! We spoke with Ramon Padilla, director of Strip Ministry of Waxing and Browhaus in New York City, to find out the best way to get your guy to the salon, and how to look after those brows.

Brow trimming and maintenance are becoming quite popular for men these days. Credit it to more competition in the workplace or the rise of the metro-sexual man, but guys are heading to the salon and not feeling embarrassed about it. "We have so many male customers now, and they're not just coming in with their wives or girlfriends," says Ramon. "Men recognize that they need to look cleaner and well-maintained, especially as they're competing with younger guys in the workplace who look sharper. Most guys get their brows done because they make them look a lot more awake."

But what about those guys who don't want to go anywhere near the salon? "You can't make it seem like a big deal," says Ramon. "Act as if it's nothing for a man to get his brows groomed, and point out the benefits of looking younger, more awake, and more approachable in the workplace." The idea of wax can be scary for men, and Browhaus doesn’t use any. Finding a place that uses only tweezers or threading can be a good way to introduce your man to extra grooming.

As for ongoing maintenance? "If a guy gets his brows done properly, he won’t need to brush them or apply gel to keep them in shape," says Ramon. "It's a simple procedure in the salon and then you forget about it! The worst thing is if a guy tries to pluck his own brows. Just don't let your boyfriend do that himself."

So, Beauties, take it easy, don't push your guy into something, and explain all the benefits in a logical manner. Just remember, it's no big thing!

I regularly pluck and trim my husbands brows, it makes him feel better otherwise he'd have Bert and Ernie ones!

My BF gets his trimmed and waxed I love them, and my bro gets them done too, but he gets his threaded

Personally I don't really have a problem with this, unless they go to the extreme and end up having better shaped eyebrows than me. Although I wouldn't touch my boyfriend, they are one of my favorite features on him :)

I completely agree with you. I don't mind if he groom a little bit, but what he naturally has now is absolutely fine =]

Btw you guys look so cute together

Exactly, unless it's like a hugeee unibrow lol.

Thank you! :)

I've never dated any guy who I thought had a problem going on up there. My Iranian friend Morad has a unibrow, and we joke about it. The word in his language for "eyebrow" is "Abroo". I told him he should paint it yellow and dress up as the golden arches for Halloween some year, and we had a good laugh :D

My boyfriend REFUSES to let me touch his eyebrows because one of this exes shaved them off way before I ever even knew him.

My boyfriend gets his brows waxed. Has for years. I don't really know why, when I see old pics of him they looked fine, but it's like his one kind of beauty up-keeping thing he does other than trim his beard, so I don't mind. As long as they don't start looking nicer than mine. Haha.

I just touch up his slight unibrow lol !! he would never!! let me do anything else

It took me a week to convince my boyfriend to let me get at them brows! I didn't push it, too much :p

He looks more awake now and MUCH more polished :)

Many of my male students this year have admitted to waxing or trimming their brows! It's becoming a totally normal and accepted thing. Love it!

Great article, but between me and my guy, im the one who needs the brow trimming! He has seriously perfect brows that I envy hahaha

Isn't that the worst? It's not faaair hahaha

Yes, hahaha I think it was the genes! His mom has really good arched eyebrows without any trimming or tweezing!
