why do you do one nail a different color?

(i'm sure if you're on beautylish, you understand the concept of an accent nail. but i get this question asked at least once a day at work.) because i have a ton of nail polish to use before i die. if it's my middle nail...well, that's the most important finger, isn't it? (i really tell my customers this & they get a kick out of it)
