I have cut sideswept bangs for myself before and thwy turned out really nice, my friend used to cut her hair also by herself and she has beautiful layered long hair, there are videos on youtube showing you how to create the look you want.

I trim my hair every so often I don't do my layers tho I leave that to the professionals. I like it.. Keeps the hair healthy looking! And I don't see myself going in every 2 months to spend20 bucks on something I can do myself at home. I do however go to a professional every 6 months ish to get my layers done :p I'm too scared to mess with them.

I cut my own bangs, they turned out good in my eyes. Just make sure you've got a steady hand and a good pair of scissors!

Oh gawd. I tried to give myself layers and messed up my hair completely. I'd say to just go to a professional because you don't want to risk it. I can cut my bangs pretty good though :)

Ever since my hair disaster at the salon, I will NEVER let anyone else cut my hair. I use hair cutting shears and a CreaClip! Works great everytime :)

I have and I loved it. It was kind of different. But I was lucky I didn't ruin it. I don't suggest it lol.

I cut my own hair :)
I have for two years now and I also cut my family's hair and my boyfriend's hair. I taught him how to cut his hair though. So now he does it sometimes on his own ^_^

I always cut my own hair. Even if I go somewhere to get it cut, I'm usually not 100% happy with it, so I end up "fixing" it myself. I've always liked how my hair turned out. But I should add, I don't really do sleek or elegant. Anytime I've cut my hair I always go for choppy, shaggy looks so even if I do mess it up, I still like how it looks.

I've cut my own hair for the past 2-3 years after a hairdresser messed my hair up really bad so I've never trusted anyone else to. I've cut myself layers, full fringe and side fringes. I just make sure I don't cut too much because then you can always go back and make it shorter if you don't like it :)

Not like this. I've onli seen a couple ppl use them right and loads that haven't this pic is to the extreme

It makes me sad to see so many ppl have hair stylist disaster stories :[ I teach a lot of my clients how to trim their own bangs at home, but ONLY if they go to sally's and get proper shears, DO NOT use kitchen scissors or anything that is not made specifically for hair. But to be honest, I never cut my own hair, other than my bangs, before going to cosmetology school. I even had friends that wanted me to, but I'm way too much of a perfectionist to do something I don't know how to do. I've trimmed my own layers since learning, but to be honest, it's too risky for my own hair. I just talk to one of my stylist friends and give them death stares while they're trimming so they know to not take too much. lol. Because if you don't do layers right, they'll lay heavy or funny. For most ppl, this is totally ok, and if you're ok with it, then cool. But, if you ever see someone in public, such as myself, looking at you a lot, it's probably not you they're looking at, it's your hair...I catch myself doing this all the time! It's just a thing, when I see layers, I'm always going into my head creating a different plan for how to blend them or make them lighter.

If you do decide to go to a salon at any point, do research! Don't just go anywhere and have anyone. And when you do find someone you like, tell them your horror stories and fears and what you like and dislike. That's what they are there for. And honestly after talking to them, if you still don't feel comfortable, just leave. It's about finding someone you can trust.

I cut my own hair as well. Creaclip and a very sharp pair of scissors have saved me lots of angry moments in a salon. I'd love to find my soulmate stylist, but my hair is way too important to me and I don't trust stylists here in Germany. I live in a rather small town.
