I am interested in this too but a lot of cosmetic lines go through wholesales like bh cosmetics and coastal scents are the same in that sense and the online cosmetic line bitch slap cosmetics goes through ladyburd cosmetics and I've also heard lime crime goes through a wholesale too but I may be wrong but it will always take time patience and money to start because if you go through a wholesale you are buying products in bulk and selling them at your price and you would most likely need a website and a registered name brand and also be creative with it :)

I really don't know but I'm sure it includes hard work and a lot of investments.
for the magazine I would start by blogging to create a fan base because printing magazines only happens when you have readers:)

My friend is planning on starting one. I would say the key to success is to make a name for yourself in the beauty industry and gather as much experience as you can. My friend has built a career and a name through hard work, long hours, sacrifice, education and experience building her own business. People look to many lines for their quality of ingredients, cultural association and oftentimes promotion.

Shelley would be an excellent resource on this topic. I believe she posted a lot of informative stuff about this exact question not too long ago. I do know that it is $$ and time-consuming...but then again, what isn't? Ha! Good luck and let us know what you find out!

It varies depending whether you want your own line of makeup or but wholesale. I think it's more expensive to go to a lab but if wanted to start a makeup line that's what I'd do. I think when you crotchet you get better quality in makeup and you chose what colors finishes etc.for the makeup as well as the ingredients. I think makeup geek has a video on YouTube about starting a makeup line. Hope that helps:) oh and good luck!!

Before branching off into starting your own line...media presence is super duper important. I'm not just talking YouTube but serious footing in the industry just as Rozberry mentioned. The investment is not cheap by any stretch of the imagination and often times folks having financial capital from VC's or angel investors (VC's stand for venture capitalists). My husband has a private lab where he assists people with developing skincare/cosmetic and haircare...its not a $1500 investment and you have a line. It doesn't work that way...packaging, marketing and ingredients all come into play (along with a bunch of other requirements). There are companies that already have formulated products and they just slap a name on it and maybe play around with the packaging to make it unique from another client but the ingredients aren't going to be all that great and often times you get what you pay for. With those companies the marketing, advertising is left in your hands to deal with. Its a very complex business to get into and there are a lot of shady manufacturers as well. To deal with a reputable lab expect to shell out $20k+ (and that's for a very limited collection). That's not including all the necessary people needed for PR/advertising/marketing.
