I can have to softest, most moisturized lips in the morning but a few hours after I applied my lipstick, my lips will start to chap and they will be dry. I drink plenty of water so it's not that, I regularly put lip balm on and I exfoliate my lips regularly. What could be causing it?

Do you use a lip primer?

You are probably using too much lip balm. I used to do the same thing. I would put some on and then whenever my lips got dry, I would lather more on! Use it before bed, when you wake up, and after lunch.

The consistence of the lipstick. Avoid matt lipsticks and try glosses, lipbalms with colours, etc.. Try a lip primer, it is said that the Too Faced one is good.

If you use carmex it will be that, it's got salicylic acid in it which dries lips out, it's ok when you put it on and for awhile after but then your lips get dry so you need to use more, and it's actually the carmex that's drying them out, strange but true!

I actually agree with them a lot of chapsticks are meant to dry out your lips so you buy more. Dr. Dans is the best.

Let me add on to this. I don't wear lipstick often. Nor do I put Chapstick on everyday. I like matte lipsticks but don't own any. I don't like glosses so... I was just wondering if there was something I could so... Oh well. Thanks.

And no I don't use Carmex. I can't stand the smell.

I get the same problem so I get creamy lipsticks.

Have you tried Urban Decay's revolution lipsticks? They're very pigmented and creamy and I don't find them as drying as other lipsticks. I wouldn't say they are 100% matte but a lot of them are not super glossy or shiny either.

Also, what lip balm do you use? Check if it has petroleum in it. Like Carmex and the salicylic acid, a lot of other brands of lip balm have petroleum jelly in them and petroleum jelly is a sealant. It will not actually put any nourishment or moisture back into your lips. It gives the illusion of moisturized lips because it does keep any moisture you already have in. But if your lips are already dry or chapped it's not really doing anything to help fix that. I'd check the ingredients list and if yours has petroleum in it I'd toss it and get one that's made without it. Alba and the Yes To brand make ones without it and are pretty cheap. Jack Black makes one for $7.50 at Sephora and Ulta. That one also has SPF so it's really a great balm altogether in my opinion.

I use Burt's Bees Chapstick. It does really help. It's not the Chapstick, it's the lipsticks. I've tried baby lips, bare minerals, revlon and wet n wild. Everything I've tried dries my lips out. I've never thought about creamy lipsticks. I can't afford high end brands nor do I want to pay that much for something I'll hardly ever use.

Try putting on vaseline or Chapstick before then lipstick on top.

I do that Natalie :) I had a Clinique lipstick but I don't know what line it was from. It was more of a tint really. It dried my lips out soooo baddd. I'll have to look into that Jacqlyn :)
