Last winter, I started having problems with my eyelids swelling up and getting really dry and flaky. They aren't that bad anymore- now they're only a tiny bit swollen and not dry at all. I'm still not entirely sure what causes this. Maybe it's allergies, but I take two allergy pills (one in the morning, one at night). My doctor said not much could be done about this, but maybe a few of you know some tricks. I'm not sure if anyone else has had this problem, but does anyone have any tricks to make the swelling in this area go down?

Do you think you could be allergic to any of the products that you use? Or your brushes?

I never thought about being allergic to brushes... Maybe that's it? It's hard to say, because whenever they start to get more swollen, I try to steer clear if eyeshadow, or even just sweeping over my lids with powder.

Well brushes tend to harbor bacteria, especially if you don't regularly clean them. You can also be allergic to whatever the brushes are made of, especially if they're natural bristles. Of course, this is just a thought.

I have the same problem for 2 years now but my eyes only swell up in winter.. in summer everything is fine. I still don't know what causes this, I thought maybe it could be the low temperature or something.. I changed my eye makeup remover and eyeliner and it got a bit better but I still don't know why it comes back every winter.

The brushes I use contain both synthetic and natural bristles. I use bare minerals makeup and brushes.

You could be allergic to the animal they make they brush bristles out of

Just did a quick Google search and they're made out of goat hair so you may want to look into that.

I have allergies to all types of pollen; hay fever all year round- urgh! But there are different pollens about each season- you might be allergic to pollen from winter plants etc.

I also find that icing the lids and then applying a warm towel really helps. Also, pick up a saline eye wash from Walmart or something to flush out your eyes nightly (especially if you wear make up)

It happened to me too about a month ago, I just didnt wear any makeup on the areas that were red and itchy/dry, don't touch them, especially rub them!! Cold water helps when they hurt :)
