Basically my hair originally (or natural) is dirty blonde. I started highlighting it last year & I was sick of it because of how damaging it was to my hair. So, I went to the salon to get my hair back to dirty blonde, or to strip my hair of the highlights. The lady made my hair red on accident. so I went to another lady to put dark brown on top of it. The brown is fading now & it looks red-brown & I hate it. I've been using a clarifying shampoo but it looks like it's bringing the semi-permanent red filler through. How can I get the natural hair back & get out the red entirely? I already went to the salon to strip my hair of all color & the red stayed in. In the picture enclosed is the evolution- first, with highlights (before red hair disaster) then, with the red, then with the brown over the red, then with the color I have now.

I don't know how sorry but if it makes you feel any better I think your hair looks really nice like that?

Omg that sucks that they had no clue what they were doing. Your hair look so beautiful blonde. I would definitely get sulfate shampoo n try n strip that color out.

Thank you guys! yeah... I'm trying but it's just fading to red, which is not what I want. I'm so upset that she screwed up my hair permanently :(

Aw I'm so sorry you are a beautiful blonde! I've experienced kinda a similar thing where I received horrible and chunky highlights that have been jut awful and ruined my hair :(( to get that out though you would need to strip, but I'd have a professional do it to reduce damage!

Try getting color oops and using that. I dyed my hair using salon dye magenta and I loved it but nothing would dye over it later on so I got color oops. It says that if you've dyed your hair more than once you'll need to do multiple treatments but all of my dye came out, I mean all of the dye aka going back like 4 years. It's amazing! Just make sure you get the extra strength one.

Sorry that hairdressers didn't work for you, last time I went to a hairdresser I asked for a trim and came out with at least 15cm off my hair, never again. In my opinion your best bet would be to bleach the colour you've got in now, out. Then buy the shade closest to your natural hair colour and put it in.

@ Georgia, please stop telling everyone on every thread to follow you on Instagram.

The problem with going from blonde to brown is that you will need a filler/toner. Since your hair is turning red you need to add in a green filler to cancel and neutralize the red. I am a hair dresser and it's super complicated to explain. I suggest finding an amazing hair dresser in your area.

And stripping your hair won't do anything because you've already bleached all the color out of your hair. There is no way to strip and already stripped hair.

@grace what can I do to go back to blonde?

I had a friends who had done the same thing you did... (only she did it about 40 times haha) so I would suggest start periodically getting highlights - bring in pictures of the colors you like and DONT like so they can be positive when they are mixing color... and start doing conditioning treatments quite often to always keep your hair hydrated. Another thing you could do is ask your stylist about back to back highlights... that will make you completely blonde with no dimension of hair in between. That way you will only have to get your roots done and you could add some darker pieces if you chose to do so. No matter what you do coloring is damaging, as long as you take care of it otherwise...
