Acrylics are basically just stuck on and then painted, ect. For gel they put little guards on your fingers (see pic) and use a gel to build a nail on top and around your existing nail. They generally last longer and in my opinion look much more natural.

Acrylic is VERY damaging to the nail, the chemicals they use are very toxic, once you get them taken off you're nails will be super brittle and weak, they break so easily as well.
Gel is much better

Acrylic is a powder mixed w a liquid built up on a natural nail, extention or a nail tip. gels are used the same its a gel applied again to a natural, extention or nail tip the baked under a I've light. there is also gel polish its diffenet then the others I mentioned. its put on strictly for color and not to extend the nail or make it thicker so it dosent break thats what the you've gel and acrylics are for. If your looking to extend your nail I'd go for the you've gel they last way longer then acrylics and can look much more natural. any overlay over a natural nail can make them thin after they are removed

I got gel once and it was horrible it left my nails more damaged and thin than with acrylic and they didn't even last 3 days before they started lifting.

Gel is so much better for your nails! Check what brand the salon uses first as some are more harmful than others, but most are great. They should last at least 2 weeks if applied properly. 🎀
