I'm going into the 10th grade and I'm taking a fashion marketing class as an elective. Has anyone taken this class? What is it about?

Did you not read what is was about before choosing it? I'm not trying to sound rude, just curious because before choosing classes there's like a booklet or whatever of all the courses you can take & it tells you what the class will be about. I'm sure you could probably find out online or on your school's website.

I'm guessing it's about marketing and more specifically fashion marketing, marketing is like selling a product, promoting, advertising, etc. you will probably learn about businesses and how the industry works, stuff like that.

I took this class but I didn't really learn anything because we used fashion books from the early 80's πŸ˜‚

I've taken every fashion centered class imaginable throughout middle school, high school, and college. I must say Marketing and Merchandising classes are my least favorite because I was always a design, illustration, and construction focused major. I HATE accounting, so that's the main reason why I disliked taking these classes. There is a lot of accounting formulas, sales analysis, and "buying" case studies. There are some fun parts to marketing and merchandising such as gathering information on demographics and applying them to (most usually) a brick and mortar store's merchandising strategy. You have to be detail oriented, well informed, math-savvy, willing to do extensive research, and organized. You really have to know a lot about garment production and materials used as well as how they relate to your target demographic. If this is an introductory class without prerequisites, you may actually spend a majority of the time studying the fundamentals of garment construction and production techniques and then delve into accounting formulas. The research, data collection, and merchandising strategies would probably come into play in more advanced classes when you really understand fashion buying and production fundamentals.
