Okay so I've never had the best skin and recently I've been breaking out due to a new birth control pill I've been put on for a syndrome I have (pcos) I have a good skin routine that I stick to, but does anyone have any recommendations? my main issue is just swolleness of the blemish and redness.

Tea tree oil, and leaving your skin alone. Or maybe a soothing face mask for your skin. I find that not using facewash/ scrubs helps a lot when I'm breaking out. Maybe try some aloe Vera too, it's an amazing plant with lots of healing/ beauty properties. Also drink lots of water :)

This has nothing to do with your question but I have pcos too!! I use the nuva ring birth control and if anything, it has been helping my acne.

Thank you Liv!! I'll try that!! and How long have you had it Bry?? I was recently diagnosed and I'm only 16 so the nuva ring just sounded a bit intimidating!!

I was diagnosed only a few years ago. I am 17 now. It intimidated me as well but I can't swallow pills so I tried the nuva ring and it isn't bad at all, stick it in for 3 weeks, take it out then your period starts. Then you repeat the cycle.

My cysts are all but gone too! My hormones are still pretty imbalanced but even those are starting to level out slowly.

I have PCOS too! I was diagnosed when I was 10 and I've recently been put on Yaz and Metformin because apparently I'm diabetic too.

Do you ladies have many of the symptoms of it? How did you get diagnosed?

I actually kind of diagnosed myself and made my mom take me to the doctor to confirm it!! I rarely get my period, I've had a 9 month wait in between some of them. I always got cramps too, so I started researching things, and talking to my mom about it. PCOS runs in my family so it was kind of a given. I have the symptom of thicker and darker body hair (it sucks) and definitely the messed up hormone levels. I'm pre-diabetic, but luckily I'm not overweight so my dr said I shouldnt be too concerned.

My first period went for two months, so my mum too me to her Gyno and found that I still had 1cm of lining left and I had cysts in my ovaries. I get black thick hair on my upper lip, in between my brows, on my tummy and I get a random few on my jaw. Without birth control I get my period once every three months and I can't get out of bed. Mostly when I ovulate I have cysts burst and I have to go to hospital - which I lost my job over. I exercise and eat healthy yet my weight always creeps up on me. I found out two weeks ago that I'm a type 2 diabetic. I'm not really sure what other symptoms I'm overlooking because I've had it for 9 years.

I have similar symptoms. Very irregular periods they would also be months apart. You are lucky you aren't overweight I'm about 14lbs over its not too bad but it's very tough to try and loose it even with regular exercise and strict diet :/ I heard metformin helps with your metabolism to help loose weight so hopefully I'm seen by a gynaecologist soon and I can get on medication.

Have you tried vaniqua for the facial hair? sorry if the spelling is incorrect.

Yeah I was told that too, it's also meant to regulate your hormones. I feel pretty good on metformin but the first week of it I was just cramped up and nauseous 24/7 because I was put on 2000mg a day instead of my dose being slowly brought up.

I haven't tried it because metformin should hopefully take care of that too, I just pluck for now. :)

I don't know why, I think my doctor might just be sadistic. :P I've only been on it for a month and it's really brought down my appetite and cravings and I feel a lot more alert. I've had to cut out lactose because I've become really sensitive to it from the Metformin.

I hope it keeps working for you :-) its crap having pcos but it can be controlled. It's good talking to people who have it as they understand what your going through.

I am also pre diabetic so I'm on metformin too! My first symptoms were hairs popping on my chest in 5th grade. Pretty abnormal for a 11 yr old. Then the cramps were horrible and periods were soo irregular and I just starting gaining weight and no knew why. My periods also stopped for a few months. So finally when I was 15 and I had a beard, we saw it wasn't getting better so we went to the doctor and I had high levels of testosterone and androgen and not enough estrogen. Since I let it go on so long, I now weigh 217lbs :/ but I am taking my medicine, dieting and I need to be exercising more, but the weight will start coming off.

My doctor told me nothing will help the hair. There is a medication for it but he said it is high risk for liver damage so I'm not taking the risk. I tweeze around my jaw and cheeks but under my neck, I shave.

Metformin can cause lactic acidosis - are you sure that's not what you're thinking?
