Hmm that should work, I usually use baby shampoo and then alcohol for a deep clean once a month.

I've heard olive oil creates a build up on the bristles.
Personally I just use a face wash (nothing expensive) just getting the bristles wet and drying them facing down on an angle.

I use an artist's conditioning brush soap (The Masters). Dampen the brush, swirl it in the soap, and rinse until the water is clear. Then I dip the bristles in 70% alcohol for 15 seconds, and let them air dry standing up with the bristles down. Never submerge or allow water or alcohol into the ferrule, as this will cause the glue to weaken and the bristles to shed. Don't let brushes dry lying flat or with the bristles up, for the same reason.
Some people swear by using olive oil to get stubborn makeup buildup out of brushes, but it traps bacteria in the brush and can also break down the glue in the ferrule (oil dissolves adhesive). If you use olive oil, you have to work twice as hard washing the oil out and sanitizing, which over time will age your brushes.
If you have expensive brushes or are just looking to keep them in tip top shape, CLEAN brush cleaner is recommended very highly by professional makeup artists.
