Do your research about what kind of environment you want to be in. When you interview for employment - even of you're apprenticing - really think about what you need, & what you are looking for in your work environment . Ask questions. Have questions prepared. If you apprentice - how long will you be apprenticing before you're on the floor? Will they offer you education internally and or externally? Pay structure . Ask about it. Commission? How often will you get a raise? What is your earning potential ? How are clients dispersed between stylists? In the beginning you want to be in an environment that supports you & your growth.
Be a keaner. Go to lots of classes. Pay attention in school, and suck every bit of knowledge out of it that you can.
Oh and pay attention in Colour theory ! Actually all theory! It matters. ;)
