I want to try and go red head. i'm bored of my hair color and my boyfriend suggested i should. is there any tips on deciding what color red goes with your skin tone? or how to know if you can pull it off?

I think almost anyone can pull off red hair. I'm super pale and went for a red close to what Drew Barrymore has. The first time I dyed my hair red I went to my hair dresser and got it done to make sure it was done right. I loved the end product but didn't love the price tag.

After that I went to my Sally's beauty supply store and picked a medium intense red to get the same affect for less then a third of the price. the brand was clairol professional soy4plex in the color 3RR.

My main tip is to google A LOT of pictures of red hair to see what kind of shades there are and what you are drawn too. Once you find one you are in love with take it to the store or hair dresser and make the change!

Let me know if you end up doing it and if after its done you have a little attitude change. Red brings out the sexy :)

i did end up dying it! sadly its only red at the ends in certain lighting, but the roots are a very nice red. i'm gonna keep trying to make it more red over time, because i do love it! thank you for the tips :) i'll keep the sally's color in mind!

Hey babe, theres a product in Sally's that I used on a client who had extreme dark hair & I got her to a bright red. I'm not sure the exact name but the product states in for highlights only going from dark to red. It's a really bright red, black & red box sorry I can't remember the name but that's the exact description, hope this helps xoxo ,

If you want to keep your red really red, look into Revlon's Colour Ball. It's basically a conditioner with a semi-permanent dye in it to keep your colour really strong.

I've had red hair for 10 years now, save for a few experiments with purple/black/brunette that never lasted more than a few weeks - I just can't resist the red! I've been every shade from the brightest fire engine red (I actually bleached my hair first - not advisable!) to more of a gingery copper, to deep mahogany.

Box dyes do OK but I always go to a salon these days... it always looks so glossy when it's finished and my stylist picks the perfect bright red for my skin, as I'm quite pale. It also lasts longer than it ever did with a box, so it's worth the extra cost!

@ Sabrina-- It all depends on what color your hair is now, if it is dark then you might have a harder time getting it red. If you have dyed it, it might also be a little harder, but with the right products it can work, and minimize damage.

Depending on how bright you want it, depends on the products.
If you have dark hair you could use (someone stated this above) Loreal HiLift Red, which is essentially used for highlights, but works great for dark hair, and lifts amazing. There are a few different reds to choose from as well-- here is a link to the colors. They do sell this at Sallys Beauty Supply. You can use this (like I said depending on your base color) without lightning you hair-- if paired with the right developer.

There are other options to choose from if you have lots of color deposited on your hair, which might be a little more damaging-- but without knowing you hair now, its hard to say.

I hope this helps :)

If you really want to go true red you can't color over brown. You have to strip the pigment out of your hair and then replace it with the red. The red tint is probably nice but if you want that bright red look then you'll probably have to lighten first.

Hey Sabrina :]

I dyed my hair red about a month ago, I have used Manic Panic in Rock 'n' Roll Red and I loved the results but it faded out so quickly. I recently tried another product from Sally's called "Hicolor Hilights" in the color Magenta with a 40 volume developer, and I LOVE the results.

Hope this helps! :]

I was red for a while . i used the loreal Hi-color dye in Red Hot ie my profile pictured. I used a 30volume developer and the color protein filler in redred to help the color stick to the ends !!!
