Ahh I had the same issue and I totally know what you mean. Look into macadamia natural oil products. I've been using the deep repair masque and leave in cream for two months now and it has done wonders for my hair. It is on the pricey side but anything for hair!

Also another thing I do is at least once a week is to apply olive into the ends of my hair and leave it in for 30 minutes and rinse with cold water. Really makes dry hair soft and manageable again.

Try a deep conditioning treatment and sit under the dryer.

So after bleaching my hair to Platinum status I know exactly what you mean.. To save my hair I started washing my hair less (every other day to every three days if I can hold out-dry shampoo comes in handy for oily roots), deep conditionings with hair masks like Bumble & Bumble and K-Pak, and of coursse, do-it-myself masks with cocount oil+olive oil mixed with a deep conditioner (which I cap with an old beanie and leave on overnight). My next investment is some Argan oil which I hear is amazing for hair (I love it for my skin!). I also spritz CHI Keratin Mist after every washing and it seems to make a big difference.

In addition to that, I always use some kind of heat protectant whenever I do a blowout, flatiron, or curl, although I try to let my hair just be natural and dry/style on it's own at least a few times a week, (don't be afraid of the messy bun- it'll save your hair in the long run!).

I also found that using a wide-toothed comb instead of a brush seems to be a little easier on my fragile hair. What I stay away from are products with alcohol (like a lot of hair serums that will make it shiny and then totally dry it out!). Hope this info helps a litttle, it def works for me!! : )

I'm right there with ya! One thing I can say FOR SURE that has improved my hair is switching to organic shampoos and conditioners. Right now I use Burts Bees and I also like The Body Shops Rainforest line. After switching my hair is MUCH more manageable! (doesn't feel so weighed down, softer, less knots)

As far as spilt ends and frizziness I am still on the hunt for something that actually works :/ I've tried sooo many deep conditioners and I never *really* see a change. I'm definitely going to try olive oil like the other girls mentioned!

Good luck and let us know if you try something and like it!

Have you tried an eggwhite mask for your hair? It's messy, and not exactly the most appealing thing to slather on your head, but that stuff is what nourishes life inside the egg, so of course it does wonders with your hair!  =)

You should try Pantenes beautiful lengths replenishing mask! I have gone through 3 jars of it so far it works great!

Coconut oil is supposed to be fantastic for your hair. Studies have shown that it can actually penetrate the top layer of your hair and help rebuild some of the center and also prevent some protein loss.
You can use it either as a leave in conditioner or as a hair mask :)

I just saw a commercial for a new Nexxus product that claims to repair split ends. Anyone tried it?

There really isn't a product that will "repair" split ends. The products that make this claim just make split ends less noticeable. The only way to repair them is to chop them off. If they are left untreated it will continue to split farther up the hair shaft. I know going for regular trims sucks because no one likes cutting their hair when they are trying to grow it out. But in the long run your hair will grow faster and healthier.

I would also recommend using shampoos that do not have sulfates. This chemical is really harsh on your hair and damaging. L'oreal has a sulfate free line that also has no silicones, parabens, or minerals. Also try using natural oils on your hair like all these ladies said such as EVOO, coconut oil, argan oil, sunflower oil, tea tree oil.

Another thing is try including more protein in your diet and drink lots if water Healthy hair starts from the inside out. Eat things like fish, lean meats, nuts, eggs, and bananas. All of those are high in protein.

And lastly try less heat styling which is damaging to your hair

I would re

I'm behind on Itesha on this. Hair is dead the second it's pushed out of the root and nothing you can do will "heal" it (as some products claim) or repair it. There are products you can do that will improve the look of dry, frizzy hair but nothing can permanently repair it. It's complete bunk if a product claims it heals hair.

I do disagree about getting your hair trim will make your hair grow faster, it doesn't. Your hair has it's own cycle when it will grow faster in the summer and slower in the winter but nothing you do can make it grow faster. All trimming your hair will do is cut off the split ends and that in turn will help your hair not break.

If you want healthy hair it will take time and a proper diet. A proper diet and exercise to make YOU healthy (overall) will create healthy hair, skin and nails.

I recommend taking a one-a-day ONLY AFTER talking to a doctor to see if supplements is needed in your diet. I need supplements because I'm lactose intolerant and anemic so I need the extra calcium, iron, Vitamin D (I don't get enough sun) and zinc.

Beauties I really need your help! I'm am so fed up with my hair...I understand there no way to truly repair my hair, so I am willing to cut my hair short, dye it as close to my roots as possible and grow it out (then no more dying it).

BUT my natural hair is this super frizzy wavy mess when I let it air dry...I have to straighten it everytime I wash it. I don't want to get back into the cycle of straightening it and damaging it again. I don't know what to do to make it look nice everyday without damaging it =( Any advice?

My advice - stop messing with your hair! LOL My hair use to get super frizzy because I use to dye it and perm it. I stopped dying and perming my hair and once new virgin hair grew out and I had all the damaged stuff cut off my hair looks fantastic.

Once my hair was nice I began dying my hair using 10 volume peroxide just to cover up my gray so I'm using a color close to my natural color. No more funky colors for me. And even though I dye my hair because I'm using as low volume of a developer as possible I'm not doing too much damage.

I use a wide tooth comb with a leave-in conditioner - not all the time with the leave-in - after I shower. I don't use a hair dryer - which frizzes my hair - unless I absolutely need to and even then don't fully dry my hair with it. I don't use a flat iron or curling iron on damp hair (and yes, there are people who do that).

LOL - Just caught Aveeno's commercial for their shampoo that "heals" damaged hair. Such bunk!

Stop doing things to your hair. Don't use so many products, they're only adding more chemicals. If you have thicker hair, look up the "No Poo Method". It could work well for you. I tried it, but it didn't work out for me because I have fine hair and it wouldn't adjust. It did, however, help my hair grow a ton in a very small amount of time. I use a sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner, I would suggest that you do that as well, if nothing else. And let your hair air dry as much as possible. Also, if possible, try to stay away from the hair products as much as you can. Seriously, all of that stuff just weighs our hair down and we become dependent on it. It may take some time for your hair to adjust to changes, but it could be well worth it. If you use a straightener/curling iron/whatever else, try to use it sparsely, and ALWAYS use a thermal protective spray when doing so. That is one thing that's well worth using because it keeps your hair from being so damaged. Oh, and all in all, just try to let it go free more! Don't brush or comb it too much, don't put it in tight pony tails as that can damage it too, just be gentle with it and let it do it's thing! You can really change the way that your hair acts by giving it more freedom.

Thanks so much for the advice...so say I do everything you guys suggest, basically leaving my hair alone. It's just when I usually let it go free...letting it air dry and not using any products it is just this ugly frizzy mess and not suitable for work. Do I just have to resort to wearing it in bun until *hopefully* one day my natural hair is beautiful on its own??? I just want to clear this all up and stop wasting my money on products!

My advice is if your hair is over processed the best thing to do is not make it worse by adding more stuff to it (like continuing to dye it). Keep it regularly trimmed and avoid products with alcohol as the main ingredient. There are lots of good products on the market to help minimize frizz but don't buy into the commercials that it will heal frizzy or damaged hair.

My hair is the same- if I were to let my hair air dry without any product I would have very coarse, frizzy dry hair that would be impossible to brush.

I found a routine that works pretty well for me: shampoo hair, rise out the shampoo and squeeze out excess water (you hair is like a sponge when wet) and then apply conditioner so it can absorb more of it. Then I towel dry and use coconut or Moroccan oil (usually coconut because the Moroccan is much better- but too expensive) and I let it air dry. If I want it curly/natural I use mousse while it's wet. If I want it straight I use a heat protector spray and straighten each layer.
If you use heat you need to use something like a heat protecting spray or it will split and become damaged much more quickly. It will also make your hair smoother and shiner.

Once your hair is damaged there really isn't any miracle product out there that is going to fix it, you can only mask it. The best thing is to leave it alone as much as possible. Don't color it anymore or add any harsh chemicals. If you have bleached your hair until its white or your hair is elastic like, and stretches when wet, you have destroyed your hair beyond repair. When your hair is wet always use a wide tooth comb instead of a brush, as a brush will break your hair when it is wet. Also it is true that the only way to fix split ends is to trim them, otherwise they will keep splitting up the shaft. So while this doesn't make your hair grow faster, it does sort of help you keep your hair longer as if you trim when they start to split you will eliminate the problem, if you wait you will have to cut off more if they start splitting further up the shaft. Hope this helps some.

I know it's not the natural or "organic" route but my GOD, keratin treatments saved my life. I am Jewish on my mom's side and Irish on my Dad's so I have frizzy, thin and fine hair that always feels guilty ;-)

I purchase my own keratin and do it myself once every 4-5 months. It seals in the split ends, leaving my hair silky and straight. It's like a permanent flat iron. The process takes quite a bit of time and if you get it done in a salon it's $$$.

But, I will NEVER go back to unkeratinized hair. All I have to do now is wash and wear and since I'm quite active and need to be able to shower off after a run then head into a meeting, this stuff is a huge time saver. I literally just wash my hair in the mornings, let it air dry (no need for heat styling, which also improves the hair) and go.

Genius!

Deep condition!! Joico reconstructor conditioner is amazing. Also use a shine serum (Paul Mitchell super skinny) i use it on everyone and its amazing. What i do for damaged hair is wash it throughly, then condtion from mid-shaft to ends (using a regular conditioner) let it sit for a minute rinse it out really well, ring out hair, or towel dry quickly, take some of the reconstructer (or the deep conditioner of your choice) and apply to ends (focus more on the split ends) use a LITTLE but more and run through the rest of the hair or you can just comb through your hair with a wide toothed comb. leave on for 3-5 minutes and rince out with COOL or LUKE WARM water. if you use hot water it opens the cuticle and releases all the moisture. Using luke warm water or cool water will help close the cuticle and keep the moisture in. When out of the shower, towel dry your hair by wrapping the towel around the ends of your hair and squeezing out the remaining water (try to get out as much as possible), and apply some shine serum to ends (and to dry bits), let it air dry dont blow dry! unless your going somewhere.. if you blow dry itll open the cuticle again. Joico makes a split end mender, i personally never tried it on myself or any of my clients, but ive had co-workers and friends whove used it and loved it! Let me know how this works for you, if you use it! Good luck! xo

You should cut down on how much styling you do to your hair. The reason your hair is falling out is because your literally killing it. Now, I don't mean you can't do anything to your damaged hair. When you do use heat or blow dry, use a heat protectant before styling. When blow drying, try using the lowest setting or the cool button. I don't feel like it is necessary to blow dry every time you shower. If you're staying home, let it naturally air dry. What kind of shampoo and conditioner do you use? I use Moroccan Aragon Oil 360 Moisture from Avon. It has made a HUGE difference in my hair, and I rarely use heat. I also use One n' Only Aragon Oil Leave-In Conditioner. You can get this at Sally Hanson. It's one of their cheapest, I believe, yet it is so amazing! I just ran out and I can feel the difference without it. I find that if you wring out your hair before conditioning, it helps dramatically! Leave every product you use in the shower in you hair for about ten minutes to get the best results. To have your hair look healthier and shine, try rinsing with, as cold as you can handle, cold water. This stops frizz and makes your hair silkily shine! I go back to you saying that your hair falls out. Mine used to a lot and I had to empty my brush nearly every day. Would you run a brush through a piece of silk? No, that would be ridiculous, right? Visually, as your hair is wet, it relates to silk. Let it dry, or I find it better to just allow it to become damp. That where the One n' Only Leave-In Conditioner locks in the moisture. If you have to brush it or you're in a hurry, use a wide tooth comb! A brush damages your hair when it is wet. If your hair is just so damaged and you need some more help, there are pills out there. I would recommend a Hair, Skin, and Nails Vitamin. The most important solution for every problem in the world is water! I was never one to just be satisfied with water, and I'll admit, I'm still not. But, with multiple health problems, it has helped me well. The average person is supposed to drink eight glasses of water a day! That's insane to me. I recommend, and going to do, is get a refillable bottle. I'm going to make lines and put a time on each line of when that much needs to be drunken. I hope this helps!
