I have REALLY red skin and Horrible acne. I have black heads on my nose and its also verry oily. My forehead has dry patches and my cheeks are covered in acne/scars. It is really had to cover because if my foundation helps the oil and covers blackheads it makes the dry spots stick out even more! And i cant find anything to cover my acne/scars. Its really bad im a junior in high school and ive had this problem sense 7th grade. I really want clear skin for my senior year but i dont have much money. I wash my face everyday and use a spot treatment and moisturize but it doesn't seem to help. Any advice? I would really appreciate it
I would invest in a good acne clearing system. I mean you can cover it all you want, but at the end of the day it's still there. I only know from experience of one system that works and that is max clarity. I hear tho that pronexin is one of the best. I thinks its only like 30 bucks for a pretty good size bottle. I hope all works out for you.=]
I would suggest a visit to your doctor FIRST. That amount of acne may not just be acne but also Rosacea. Usiing over-the-counter products (OTC) may cause more inflammation to occur. There are so many reasons for acne break out - hormonal, environment, even food but when it's THAT bad you can't just say "oh it's this or it's that".
Just keep in mind that the more you try to hide it, especially since it's all raised, the more it's going to stand out. Less is more in your case.
As for makeup, I would suggest using mineral products OR Clinique's "Redness Solutions" line. I haven't used Clinique Redness Solutions Makeup Foundation SPF 15 with Probiotic Technology ($25) but I have used the powder from the line - Clinique Redness Solutions Instant Relief Mineral Powder ($33) it's yellow and it does help cancel out the redness.
I agree with Yasmin. You should go to a doctor first and hear what he/she says. They may even have recommendations on which products might work for you. Putting on concealers and such might just aggravate the condition and you don't want that.
I have a friend who has a similar skin type and her doctor put her on some meds and creams. I have to say, she's looking a lot better lately.
Hope this helps!
i also aggre with yasmin, you should visit the doc first if you have tried otc the meds already, and nothing works, you mihgt need something stronger and prescription strength is the solution, if you do end up going to the doc and the cream/gel/cream whatever they give you make sure u ask or coupons!!! they help with medication copays (trust me i work at a pharmacy) and you only pay so much hope this helps :)
I basically agree with everyone else. If you dont find something to help the acne itself and rosacea covering it up will only make it worse because you're not treating it. I would definitely see a doctor. Mine was never as bad. I used Proactive and it cleared me right up until I got older and grew out of it, but please know I AM NOT telling you to use that. That is what helped me and a doctor can definitely tell you more than us beauty junkies <3. It can be really frustrating but keep your chin up and look for something that works for you and with a doctors help if you choose that route which would be best.
Make up wise I agree with Andrew using studio sculpt is a nice way to cover it. You could also try Varma. Its a little pricey just like everything but it covers tattoos wonderfully from what I've seen. link to the site http://www.varama.co.uk/
I hope all of us ladies and gents have helped out some.

Im sure. It doesnt help many thats why i said it worked for me and I think it would be a waste of your time if you hadnt of tried it. there are so many products out there though.
0. You are beautiful. Your eyes have this gorgeous little twinkle to them that lets me know that there is a loving soul inside. Your lips have this perfect little cupids bow shape and your eyebrows have the most perfect face framing arch- I'm totally jealous.
Make sure that as you're seeing the negative things about your skin in the mirror, you're remembering all the beauty you have within you. You are a beautiful girl and loving yourself should be TOP priority!
1. Make sure you're not washing your face TOO much or with too strong of a treatment. Often times acne sufferers will use something which is heavy with a acid to dry up the oils. The downfall of using these products all over your face is that it will make your dry patches worse. If your skin is combination (dry some places, oily others) you have to treat the two areas with different products (regarding moisturizers, etc). Also, if you're washing your face too often with ingredients that strip natural oils, you face may produce more oils in response. Sucks, I know. It's like you can't win!
Dilligence is key. Find a routine that addresses drying up your acne on the oily spots, and moisturizing your dry spots, and STICK TO IT. It can take 10+ days for your face to get used to any new skincare routine and staying dilligent is the only way to allow your skin to adapt properly.
2. If you are able to go to the doctor, do so. Acne is often worsened by the appearance of bacteria in and on our skin. It would be terrible if you were treating your face with the wrong medicines for the specific bacteria you're trying to rid yourself of. My feeling is that we pay big bucks for insurance, and doctors get paid high salaries, to help us. So use the resources you have available to you to get the expertise they have.
3. For makeup, I would suggest Cover Fx. They have a great primer call Cover Fx Clear which actually has a treatment within the primer to nurture acne prone skin. Setting down a smooth base is key when you want to try to cover any blemishes, whether just one spot or many.
Their Cover Fx cream foundation is amazing for just your condition. It was originally created by a nurse who wanted a solution for her patients with scarring, birthmarks, rosecea and other skin issues. It's great coverage without pore clogging ingredients. Just remember, your skin is alive, and as any living thing - it needs to breathe! Make sure to wash off any makeup at night, and on weekends or when you're not going out, don't put it on.
4. You are beautiful...actually, that's going to be number 0 in my 1-4 list because it really should be first and formost. But here, in #4, I say it again. YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL! Do not let your skin's appearance on the outside dull the beautiful light within you. Be strong with your personality, and have the confidence to know that you are a gorgeous girl who is so much more than the skin issues that you see in the mirror. See past that face to the heart and soul of a good person and hold those things dear to you...use that as your strength and your foundation. You are a truly beautiful girl.
I have had problems with acne in the past and I went to my doctor. They gave me an antibiotic to take for it and that helped me a lot. Obviously your doctor would have to prescribe it and talk to you about whether or not its right for you first but that really seemed to help me and taking a birth control pill like a few other people suggested helped too. I hope this helps :)
Don't let skin issues get you down (easier said than done I know) I have been there and stressing about it made my skin worse.
I work for a derm as an MA and I totally understand where you are right now. Have you considered going on Accutane? It's tedious but has worked with the most extreme cases of acne such as yours.
Definitely get yourself to a good dermatologist and get yourself treated. Be persistent with medicating and sticking to your regimen. Anti-biotics such as Solodyn or Doxycycline can also help but should not be taken for an extended period of time. Birth control pills can help but your level of acne is pretty severe. Try all avenues and don't settle for anything less!
I saw this really amazing video with this girl who had really terrible acne. She goes over her regimen, if I find the link, I will post it here. It was really helpful!
I thought I could jump in here and help April out a bit. Below is a link to a video where a girl shows her makeup routine and she also is in a similar situation to you. I hope this can help a little!
Hi. I would like to suggest some things. :)
First, try to avoid wearing makeups for a couple of days or a week. Just like foundations, if you'll see, foundations produce too much oil after wearing it couple of hours. And oiliness is next to having acne problems.
Second, have a habit of cleansing your face twice a day or whenever you feel oily and stuff.
Third, toning. Use a toner that has a Salicylic Acid, because
Salicylic acid is a keratolytic agent. It dissolves keratin, a protein found in the skin. It breaks up the layer of skin that clogs the sebaceous gland. This allows the pimple to heal and the hair follicle to return to normal.
Fourth, avoid over moisturizing because it can clog your pores.
Fifth, have a habit of eating more veggies and drinking lots and lots of water everyday. :)
I strongly recommend retinaldehyde and glycolic acid together. I had horrible acne for the last 11 years and it completely cleared after I started this regimen and is still clear. I use Avene Retrinal and Glytone Step Up facial cream. Seriously consider! You can read my blog post on it for more details http://www.honeynsilk.com/2012/01/f...
I'm 36 and had acne from the age of 10. You are doing yourself a disservice if you continue to try and solve your acne issues by anything topical. It will not work for acne that is hormonally. Believe me I've tried everything except for accutane. Good skin comes from a clean diet. Two years ago, I got fed up and went to a dermatologist and she put me on antibiotics and it worked, but it's a temporary fix. Your doctor will not let you stay on them for very long. Last year I made huge changes to my diet and my skin has NEVER looked better. I learned there is a direct link between my liver, insulin spikes and hormones. I had to eliminate foods that spiked by insulin (sugar/honey, white rice, white flour, white potatoes and white pasta). I also had to remove soy from my diet too because it screwed with my hormone levels. I've found my skin does well when I'm taking Vit. A, Zinc and Fish Oil. I've blogged about my progress. It isn't easy, but it works.
I had kind of the same problem, not acne though, seborrheic dermatatis and perioral something. It took a while, but the only thing I truly had to do was GO TO THE DERMATOLOGIST. Honestly, THEY SAVED MY LIVE. This picture isn't even the bad side lol. And there would be one point where every area of my face, and this is no exaggeration, was flaking. I got bullied and people told me to buy moisturizer and invest in my skin. It was horrible.
My skin is as smooth as a babys bottom and I only get one-three occasional pimple(s) on my hair line. Thats all now. It's like a big sigh of relief.
I can't even stress it enough, go to the dermatologist they will save you, they saved me lol. And also, NOTHING TOPICAL. I take a pill for it in the morning after breakfast and at night after dinner and it SAAAAVEESSS me. I promise you, and hey, when you do go to the dermatologist and they prescribe you (anything), let me know if all goes well, I'm actually super excited to hear about your progress! Lol, girl let us know(:
when i said nothing topical, moisturizer without alchohol is key to skin survival, so do use moisturizer and wash your face up to two times a day, but when they prescribe you with something, ask for something oral(: oh and drink a TON of water throughout the day. i aim for four cups a day because its hard to drink eight cups a day, but i do have days where i get bored and just drink water to catch up to eight cups.
Hi Alisa (:
I started getting acne when I was in 6th grade and it continued to become worse and worse over the year to the point where when I touched my face there wasn't a single smooth area on my face. I tried every acne fighting product out there and none of them worked! No, not even proactive! So my parent took me to this great dermatologist and he first prescribed this stuff that you might have heard of, its called 'Epiduo' and for me it did absolutely nothing. Then he proscribed this long treatment usually known as 'Accutane' but its scientific name is 'isotretinoin'. I had to take this long treatment for a few year to see that my acne cleared up to the point where only 2 to 3 pimple would be on my face. No blackheads or uneven skin. The scars just take time to disappear, but trust me they will! It's a treatment where you take a certain dosage of isotretinoin pills for about half a year and then you wait half a year till you can start the treatment again. You must get your blood taken once a month to make sure you aren't pregnant, because the effects to your baby are sever if you do have one during the treatment. There are quite a bit of side affects but that always goes along with anything that is usually proscribed. The most common are dry skin (expected) and nausea. But if you don't want to have to go through that sort of expense, then i'd advice you to try 'Maximum Strength Invisible Acne Cream'. Its a Walgreen's brand which you might not expect to work, but it does and i'll tell you why. It's the amount of 'Benzoyl Peroxide' that they put into it. Now, the Epiduo cream has Benzoyl Peroxide in it but only 2.5% in it. Now with sever acne that amount is a joke. With this Walgreen's brand acne cream, it has 10% and costs around $4. That makes it 4x more effective than the +$35 prescribed acne solution. I hope this helps with your acne problem, cause it sure helped with mine! <3

I will suggest a couple things:
0. You are beautiful. Your eyes have this gorgeous little twinkle to them that lets me know that there is a loving soul inside. Your lips have this perfect little cupids bow shape and your eyebrows have the most perfect face framing arch- I'm totally jealous.
