Primers are great for a few reasons. First, they create a barrier between your skin and the product you are putting on your eyes/face. This allows the product to last longer on your skin. For instance with eyeshadow, you'll find that with primer your eyeshadow will look great all day. It won't crease, fade, etc. Without primer, the natural oils of your eyelids will begin to break down the eyeshadow causing it to crease.

Eyeshadow Primers are also great when working with mineral eyeshadows! They give the mineral eyeshadows something to stick to when applying.

The same goes for Face Primers...with Foundation Primers, the product fills pores, lines, etc., so that your foundation goes on a lot more even, smoother, lasts longer, etc.

I hope I made sense!  :)

Can someone answer me this? Will primer help with breakouts? I've have very very very acne prone skin. I don't use a face primer, but if I do will it help keep foundations from breaking me out?

It depends. The primer itself might make you breakout but if you get a good one, it might actually help your skin. Since it creates a barrier, it protects your skin from anything in your makeup that might cause your skin to break out.

I always use a primer before foundation because I find that foundations blend better and last longer. I am also acne prone, but silicones have never bothered my skin, just waxes and thickeners. I also have to ensure that I use a makeup removing wipe, then wash my face thoroughly with a gentle cleanser to ensure I remove all my foundation at the end of the day to prevent breakouts.

after reading all of this clearly its very important to use a primer!! haha i'd say if you are now looking for one, the urban decay primer potion is your best option for eyshadow and for face i love the laura mercier foundation primer... a bit pricey but worth it.

i've used smashbox, and now i'm using avon's magiX face perfector. totally love it, and only £7.

I like NYX HD eyeshadow primer. All the main important points were already covered, but I do enjoy that it also evens out discoloration on my eyelids, like veins, which sometimes can show through when im not wearing darker colours.
