I've been thinking on going to makeup school, I've learned a lot by watching youtube and reading books and stuff like that, but I want to grow more in makeup...
So I want to go to a makeup school, but here where I live there are only courses that give you the basics like contour and higlite and stuff like that, but I want to try new things and this kinda courses don't really have what I want, I was wondering if you have taken online classes is it worth it or what is your opinion?
Well I'm not sure all your circumstance or everything you know but I can tell you what I've gathered! LOL
I would personally do the masters courses online with QC Makeup
But that being said I want a cosmetology license but without the money or time to do that it wouldn't be helpful for me at this time to do online courses cause I can't really use it in the way I would for jobs
That being said I think it would be better for you to go into classes if you could but nothing is wrong with online as long as you feel you are getting the right kind of guidance
I tend to feel that hands on jobs require hands on training. That said, if you are given a solid understanding of technique, theory, etc., and you have a willing participant to let you practice on them, and a natural artistic ability then perhaps you can still have a winning combination.
If in-person classes are available though, I would think your education would be better served though.
QC also requires you to do make up on a subject
I believe you can do it on yourself but it's obviously better to do it on a friend etc because make up is easy on yourself
@ Matthew M. yeah I feel you are right there, but the courses here I feel are not complete, I might even need to move from state if I want to attend makeup school, because certently this so called courses I feel don't teach you what you are paying for :/
I think if you are starting out, a class that you can take where the instructor can look at your work and see you apply...and guide you where you need help in your technique would be done better in person. You can't get that from an online course.
I know you say that there isn't a school near you, but it you want to be strong in your skill you need to do what ever it takes. Maybe going to several classes that only last days would work better then a school that takes months or weeks. You may have to take a weekend class outside of your area for a few days by a GREAT instructor. There are more options than you think.
Most people that are artistic learn by doing things hands on. Most of these on-line schools don't have any accreditation. I would say, if the opportunity is available to you, work at a makeup counter. You have the opportunity to work on a lot of different types of people, skin types & face shapes. Plus, you usually get training from the line you represent (not to mention free product). But don't stop there - be proactive in your education! Seek knowledge out - go to trade shows and take the classes (they are usually included in the cost of the admission), if a particular line you love is going to be near your area and offering educational classes - go! You are never done learning in the industry. Once you think you know everything and cannot learn anything new, then it's time to switch careers ;)
