Hello! Wont make this long, so here's the thing.

I LOVE painting my nails, and I change color almost every day. Today I cleaned them and left them unpainted, but I noticed like stripes over my nails... NOT those black stripes that look like are under the nail, also not referring to the white stripes, but like... when I touch them, I can feel a texture, and I can see them (like the surface of the nail should be smooth, but it isn't...), I don't really know how to explain it but I hope someone can understand.

Anyone knows why is this caused?...

I have no idea! When I get funnily textured nails, I buff the surface off until there is no shine on my nails, then use moisturiser to tidy them up. In between polishes, it's probably a good idea to use cuticle oil, as you're putting your nails under a lot of work with all that polish remover and varnish!

Yes! exactly, ridges!. I wanted to buff the surface, but I don't want them to get too thin ): I will try to find a good oil for them, and will leave them unpainted for some days too!

Thank you!!

as long as the ridges are vertical there's no need to worry.
when you paint your nails and want the coats to be smooth but don't want to buff you can just use ridgefiller :)

Yes they're vertical! where can I get a ridgefiller?

I don't know where you live but almost every nail polish brand has some nailcare products.
just use the search function here on beautylish by typing in "ridge filler'" and there you go :)

hi! i was just wondering what it is when the ridges are vertical?

I'm quoting the article I posted above:

"Vertical ridges are usually nothing to worry about, and are a general sign of aging and progress as one gets older. Generally there is nothing you can do about this type, however keeping the nails moisturized with hand lotions, or oils. Moisturizing from the inside out with the essential fatty acid of Omega-3 which can be found in flax meal, fish oil, salmon and walnuts is a good choice. Filing and buffing the nails may also help with the nails appearance.

Horizontal ridges are the type that cause alarm. However they can occur for a multitude of reasons such as underlying medical conditions such as diabetes, metabolic disorders, medications, and nutritional issues. In the case of an underlying medical condition, once the condition has been identified, proper medication can be given, and the ridges should begin to fade away. Medications once stopped will reduce the nail ridges as well. In cases where nutritional problems are the cause , it can be remedied by eating a nutritious diet that includes foods from all food groups. The nails need certain nutrients and minerals such as calcium, vitamin C, b-complex, protein, zinc, vitamin E to properly grow and be strong."

They're just ridges! Nothing to worry about! Everyone gets them, I think. If you have one of those nail buffing tools, you can quickly and easily get rid of them and make your nails nice and smooth again. You should probably stop changing your nail polish so often, though. All the chemicals is bad for them >.< However! Giving yourself a nice, good manicure every week will definitely assure that your ridges don't get too bad!

Sounds like they may be dry so a good moisturizing base coat would help too

The quote from the article Tanya K. posted is 100% right. Nails are a reflection of our general health. Any changes are always either due to aging, sickness or diet.
