gotta spend money to make money. Advertise your business on wedding vendor sites such as theknot.com, mywedding.com (those are the two biggest wedding sites). I get a LOT of business from them

I agree with Lauren, you ahve to invest to make money.
facebook and personal websites are always good but advertising on wedding sites is probably the better option for business expansion.
I also have my business cards at a local salon (the one i visit myself), cos they told me that they get asked about makeup artists quite often. So I asked if they could kindly refer ppl to me by handing out one of my cards to any potential clients :)
I also traded business cards with a photographer who does wedding photography, so it's like we promote each other. There is a lot of way to go about promoting yourself. local news papers, asking highschools if you could promote your service during ball/prom seasons. if you know people who work in the beauty industry or owns a salon may asking if you could leave your cards with them (providing they don't already do a makeup service at the salon).

I deinitely agree with the majority you have to spend money to make money you will always get the jobs that come from your facebook page or from ppl seeing your makeup on you but the real work the steady work comes from having that business card available while u are at a job doing clients other ppl can see u working and may not want to stop u and ask u question s but they can certainly pick up a card and call u later or if u have a website check that out with your work and that doesn't mean that u have to spend alot but there is no successful company that was started without some sort of an investment in the company even if it is a small one which getting buiness cards, postcards are very inexpensive to do check out vista prints.com and definitely network with bridal consultants not just online but in your area and photographers in your area as well and most of the time they dont pay in the beginning.I had a few t-shirts made that I wear on different jobs and when I am out and about and I get alot of attention from that as well and I do spa parties and network with different girls that offer massage's and other skincare treatments and we put together a evening or an all day event where women can come and get pampered also I do Prom's and with that I just go to the near by highschools and ask if it is ok to leave postcards and cards with a prom special and then I may get a room at a nice hotel room for the daynear where the prom is being held and I usually do about 10 to 15 girls on the day of their prom which is alot but its great because usually the girls all know each other and they can socialize and I aslo am a hairstylist so there maybe one or two girls that may have messed their hair a little so I help with that and its a great career building experience.I dont know if u are in a small town or big city but find out if ur city has a fashion week which most do even it is not on the scale of a New York fashion week or London or Paris but its a start for other industry professional 's to know ur there and see ur work and last and I know its alot I live in ATL. so the music industry is big I have gone to different music labels and spoken to different ppl i the A/R department which is the dept that helps the artist new and old develop their style from clothing to music and I let them know that I am available to come in to do an artist for any upcoming performances and photo shoots . U cannot expect to be paid at first for everything u do do ur work and name will be seen and out there and ppl that matter will remember u the next time and then u can charge them a fee and always u are your best advertisement always look camera ready when u are out and about ready to hand out a card hope sme of this works for u it has really helped me
