It's best to stray away from ebay for MAC

Yeah. If that "MAC" makeup comes with sponge tip applicators or looks like those junk kits you get from the grocery store, it's not MAC.

That always stinks :( It happened to me a few times. I ordered some pigments off Ebay that I thought was MAC and I have no idea now whether they are or not.

There are legitimate websites out there, selling makeup that's genuine; unfortunately, ebay just isn't one of them (which is sad because it's the only way for me to get some UK products!)

I would definitely be careful purchasing Mac products from ebay. I have purchase some Mac eyeshadows from ebay but that was because I knew they were real.I only products that I know very well. Happy to hear that you did not spend your money.

I've had bad and good experiences with MAC from eBay, I've bought a few pigments that have been 100% genuine and a couple eyeshadows that have been fake.

There are several indicators when wanting to purchase legit high end brands from companies other than the original companies. Most sites like ebay will only have the numbers on the shadows not the color names. Also, the packaging is completely different and if you look up fake MAC on YouTube you'll find several Tubers who've done videos on the packaging and such. There is also a site that sells all MAC (like) products but if you read the site you'll definitely see they admit to selling replicas (they even have the entire Wonder Woman collection packaging and all).
Just be mindful of what you're buying if it's really important for you to have the REAL thing.

Your best chance of knowing is Googling "MAC fakes" or something like that.

how do you know if the brushes are real?
May 1, 2012
Rikki P.
You can Google that too.

If you're on ebay you can usually contact the seller and ask them to send you more pictures so it might make it easier to tell if it's real or fake. If they refuse to send you more pictures, chances are it's fake and they just don't want you to find out

yeah i made the mistake once of thinking i was getting a killer deal on a mac pigment from ebay.when i got it and opened it i knew straight away i was ripped off but luckly she refunded me my money when i sent her a not so nice message..since then i stay off ebay when it comes to makeup

TheSublimeAgent actually has a video on sellers that sell real MAC on eBay, so I'd look for that video on his account.

Be careful of the beauty box subscription service THE POSH POD. They claim they work with designers and brands when in reality they buy from EBAY then have the audacity to claim they're working with 3rd party vendors.

I actually purchased a MAC 187 brush that ended up being fake (had NO idea when i ordered it) and it actually ended up being pretty legit. I did get a real one however, and I do like it more, but when I dont want to clean my brushes it does the job for sure. I would probably buy another one, or a few, but wont because I dont want to give "fakes" business.

some FAKE brushes shed..that's one way you'll know if its REAL
May 4, 2012

Well, my (real) MAC 187 shed like crazy on me, hahahaha.
Drove an hour and a half again just to take that back for that reason, LOL!

We have problems with diversion in the beauty industry, the "grey" market is how you'll find professional haircare brands in supermarkets and other retailers, etc. I refuse to partake in any purchases that are not directly from the brands or licensed distributors. I won't ever buy knock offs of anything (high end bags and the like) because it negatively affects the whole supply chain as well as our credibility as professionals. I don't get judgmental of girls who get a great deal in the city but I dont do it myself.

Aside from MAC, there are also a lot of fake NARS products popping up. Beware!

I have baught some fake mac brushes that have decent quality though. every once and a while i will find the replica of my most used brush, the 187, on ebay and it is very decent. I actually prefer it to my real mac 187 brush because the bristles don't fall out as much and I payed less than $2 for the replica where the real thing cost me $40.
