I have a question. Do any of you guys know how to dye hair platinum blonde at home without using bleach? I'm not sure if I want to or yet, but my friend's been asking me and I really don't like the idea of bleach.

Personally, I would not recommend doing it at home. I also think it's pretty safe to say that trying to do it in a single go is *not* going to lead to desireable results. Better to go to a salon and lift the colour gradually, IMO.

I agree with the rest of the girls, don't do it at home. My hair is naturally the darkest brown and it took 2 applications of bleach (by my stylist) to reach platinum. After a my 3rd root touch up my hair started breaking off...SO I had to shave my head. It's VERY harsh on dark brown hair.

totally agree with the rest of these ladies. from the looks of your photos your hair looks dark, and there's no way of lightening your hair up without bleach. i would recommend you going to a professional, so they can look at your hair color and texture. that way they will know exactly what products to use on your hair.

it depends, its not impossible, what is yout natural hair color? when was the last time you colored your hair? i have a client that colors her hair at home, her natural color is a dark to medium brown, she uses Clairol Born Blonde Maxi (for 45min). im so shocked on how light it gets her hair. it honsetly all depends on your hair type, texture and condition, health hair takes good color.

Thanks you guys for the feedback. I think if I decide to do it, I'll get it done professionally. My hair is naturally a dark auburny brown, so it doesn't get that light in a natural way at all.

Please don't do it at home. You will end up spending 3 times as much having to get it corrected which will be bad for the integrity of your hair.

As a hairdresser i can tell you there is no possible way to lighten hair without the use of bleach. Color doesnt lighten color.. It can only deposit color.. Hair is naturally made up of pigments of color.. When you lighten the hair it has to be done with bleach because it is the only thing that takes the pigment out of the hair. When you lighten it it has to go through each level until you get it light enough. Bleach is obviously damaging to the hair.. Inorder to get it light enough you have to bleach it a few times. Do not do it in one day because it will literally break off. Just know that when you do it the first time it will go to a lighter level but will be orange due to the contributing pigment of the hair.. Hope that helps
