Hi everyone!
For so long, I had wonderful skin. I got like one or two pimples every here and there, but nothing really terrible. About a year ago, my face starting getting TERRIBLE. I was breaking out EVERYWHERE, I basically had a beard of red, painful pimples all over my cheeks, chin, above my lips, along my jawline. It was awful. NOTHING made them go away. Every product I tried would just rev them up and make things look worse! All the products I tried, I waited the amount of time required to see results! But never did I see any, and if I did, they were bad results! My mum suggested that I tried Proactiv+, and I've been using it for a bit now, and my skin looks and feels WONDERFUL!! I was so excited by this. I'm finally starting to feel confident again.. But then I started doing research on the product and heard such awful things. People saying that it caused cancer, made them break out worse then ever and I read a bunch of "Proactiv ruined my life" stories! Now I'm terrified and feel as if I shouldn't be using it... It's the only thing I've seen results from though and I'm finally starting to feel confident in my skin.😞 thoughts?? Should I stop using it and accept my fate??

Well every one skin is different. what works for others may not work for some. If its making a difference, I wouldn't stop using it!

If the product was just awful it wouldn't work. You can try to slowly stop it and see if you still need it. Why don't you write your current routine so you can get advice from girls here?

I used proactiv for about a year. I stopped using it bc I felt like I was done with it as it cleared up my face. It helped me and I didn't have any side effects after I stopped using it. I'd suggest using it 3 months after you face clears up and then slowly switching back to your basic routine. Hope this helps!

I used it for a while as well buy saw no results. I would suggest starting to lightly take yourself off of it and mix up your skin routine. Like stated above, your skin gets used to the chemicals and product so it's good to switch it up here and there so you can trick your skin!

This site has a full ingredients list for Proactive +, but you have to get through her opinions before you get to the facts. Looks like Proactive + is just a somewhat improved version of the original. I'm a skincare consultant and biochemistry/biology major and none of the ingredients are alarming. I don't like the line and I think it is incredibly drying and too strong for many people, BUT if it's working for you then that's good! Make sure you are hydrating enough with soothing ingredients and wear sun protection because if anything is cancer-causing it's UVB radiation. These products make you more photosensitive so it is especially important that you use sun protection. On another note, the area where you were breaking out screams hormonal acne- if it comes back I would think about regulating it with the pill, as it can help a lot with that. Sounds like you are being smart and cautious about your skin!

I stopped using it because it didn't do anything to me, I feel as if you REALLY don't want to go back to your skin before using this I suggest you still use it. Everybody's skin is different. Not everything that you try to going to work.

I don't think it gives you cancer otherwise they wouldnt be selling it. Those people who got cancer probably had a family history and got cancer but other than that you should be fine.

Thanks for your responses everyone, sorry I didn't get back sooner, I posted that late at night! I think I will continue to use it for a bit longer as it is working for me, I just read such scary things that I think I freaked myself out quite a bit!! And I definitely have noticed it's quite drying, but I have a great moisturizer at hand and will be using that lots! Thanks everyone!!

I only use the face wash, step one and it cleared my skin up too. I used it for about 2-3 years and now I just use it twice a week for a deeper clean. Never had any issues. Worked to clear up my skin and as I started to use it less and less did not experience my skin breaking out bad again. If it's working for you go for it.
