So recently, I chopped off a BUNCH of hair that was absolutely fried from bleaching (probably about 8 inches). Since then, I stopped using heat on my hair and I picked up some sulfate and paraben free shampoos.. I thought this would be great and help the health of my hair, but as I was in the shower the other day and began reading the ingredients and there is still a bunch of scary sounding chemicals in the ingredients as well as alcohol.. Does it really matter if it's sulfate and paraben free if it's filled with other icky stuff?? Should I switch completely to all natural, organic products??

I'm not sure what ones but not all alcohols are bad... they are actually beneficial and not drying but like I said I don't / can't remember which ones so there is that...

This blog goes pretty in depth about the types of alcohols and which ones do what, which ones can be drying, which ones are hydrating, etc

Just remember that everything and everyone around us is made up of crazy-sounding chemicals. Do not freak out if the names look weird. What shampoo are you using? I'm using the no-poo from deva curl and it's doing WONDERS for my scalp.

Not all of those cones and alcohols are bad. A perfect example is Cetyl alcohol, which is a fatty alcohol that is healthy for your hair. Just type in whatever you're curious about into google to become better informed because you don't wanna scare yourself half to death Lol - I did that when I first went natrual and started the Curly Girl Routine. it was not pretty :/

I use Hask products. Being a biologist, I have read some research about the ingredients in beauty products. I avoid parabens and phthalates, so Hask is a great choice.

Thank you Chelle, I have been doing the same thing scaring myself into thinking everything is so bad for me!! The media doesn't help much.

And thank you Jenny! Love the shampoo so far, it has made my hair feel wonderful!
