Hey guys, so I'm trying to start freelancing. I need to buy some foundations. My pool of clientele ranges in complexion so it's important that I have a good range of colors. I had a few questions:
1- if I can only afford one palette (cool, neutral or warm) which one should I get?
2- what is your favorite palette? (I really want the BBU but I can't afford it yet) I was looking at graftobian, RCMA and cinema secretes.
3- what is your suggestion for setting powders, highlighters, contours, eyeshadow palettes.
4- do you have any recommendations for lip products?
5- any other tips for starting up especially tips for products and marketing.

I really appreciate your help.!!

I'm not an mua but I do love makeup!

1. I'd suggest a Morphe 35 palette which has a range of warms, neutrals, cools, mattes and shimmer. They're very cheap too! I've heard BH Cosmetics are very good and Makeup Revolution do fantastic dupes of the Naked palette, all of their palettes (face, eye and lip) are fantastic and cheap!
2. I haven't tried RCMA or Graftobian but I've heard amazing things about RCMA from our sensei Jacqueline. However, it's not a tin to face foundation and does require warming up on the hand as it is full pigment. But the palettes come in incredible colour range and I've even found one Light enough for myself!
3. I'm not au fait on setting powders yet (yet to find my HG!) but I can recommend the Laura Geller baked highlighters, TheBalm 'Mary Loumanizer' and No7 illuminating liquid. A contour palette I adore is the Sleek one, it's very cheap but I wouldn't recommend using the highlight. If you can stretch to it, the Clinique chubby contour sticks are great, the Estee Lauder contour kit is amazing and the Kevyn Aucoin sculpting powder is the best. I think Alma has a dupe on the Kevyn Aucoin sculpting powder but I can't remember the brand, I have a hunch it's by LA Splash. Eyeshadow palettes wise, I can recommend Bare Minerals, Urban Decay and Morphe. I don't think the UD Naked palettes are worth the price but their single shadows are great. I love KIKO eyeshadows, of which you can build your own palette. NYX do great shadow singles and you can build your own palette on the INGLOT freedom system, of which I believe Sugarpill do the same.
4. NYX NYX NYX! Incredibly cheap lipsticks and lipliners, come in a huge variety of colours and finishes are last ages. I also ADORE MakeUp Academy (MUA) and Makeup Revolution liquid lipsticks. Too Faced also do brilliant lipsticks.
5. Use products that you would use on yourself. Make sure you know how to use each product and how to apply on others to get the best finish. Make sure you know which products work with which skin type. I'd also recommend investing in a couple of good primers (I'd recommend L'Or?al mattifying primer, Max Factor mattifying primer, Bare Minerals prime time) and a good setting spray. A good set of brushes can also help SO much, I love my Look Good Feel Better brushes, which are cheap and so well made. They're also a charity too :)
Marketing-wise, you have to push yourself out there. Make yourself known. Don't be afraid or scared, there are lots of people just like you trying to make their way and you have to show just why you're the best out of the bunch. Although this is completely different, when I started off coaching gymnastics aged 15, I was a shy kid who half-hid behind my mentor coach and couldn't say boo to a goose. Aged 17, two years down the line I can now manage my own class and I don't take anyone's s***. Although it may take you some time, you can establish yourself and build your confidence. If it's what you love, you'll rock it.
