I really want to get a nice medium-dark tan for summer...

questions:

1.) how long should I lay out in the sun? and how many days will it take?
2.) I don't want to completely damage my skin, so how much spf should I use?
3.) any other tips/steps for tanning?

take in mind, I don't have a tanning oil. I'm just going to lay out in the sun..I tan fairly easily, I just want a couple pointers (:

Always make sure to wear sunscreen!! EWG has a list of the best and most effective sunscreens - that being said I recommend a spf of 30. If you want to tan faster try swimming, the reflection from the water will help the speed of tanning. Whenever I want to go tanning I try and do something active, such as walking, yoga, or swimming - doing activities will help time pass so it's easier to multitask (tan and do something else)

Tan skin is damaged skin. That is what my dermo says all the time. There are so many bottle tan products worth trying out. Why risk your young youthful skin for something that it could come back and haunt you later when you're my age in the form of sun spots. Its accumulative and sun spots are a beast to remove. I love getting darker than what I am for the summer so I rely on self-tanner products to go at least 2 shades darker than what I am. Check out Josie Maran Argan Tanning Oil. My MIL used it and she is super fair skinned...next morning she had herself a nice natural looking tan (didn't look orange either).
